Tire size question 255s to 265s...

So I am planning on doing the pre key mod and shackle mod and then eventually getting larger tires. My question is, based on what an online tire conversion tells me is that going from a 255/70/16 to a 265/75/16 will give me 1.5inch of lift. My brother in law though say's he can't see me getting anymore than a quarter of an inch of lift. So is the converter truly telling me its 1.5inch of lift or is my brother in law right? Is an 1.5inch really a 285 size tire?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Umm.....take the diameter difference of the size of the tires, divide by two, that is how much taller your truck will be than before.

This is not considered 'real lift'.

Well your going from about a 30" tire to a 31.5"-32" tire. Soo at a 2" difference in overall height. the truck will sit about 1" higher. Add in the prekey mod and shackles and I would say you will get about 2.5" of lift.

Okay so If I went with a 285 size tire than that would beef my truck up more? I've heard that the larger the tire, the larger the width and that result you get my wear in the middle of your tire but you can let the air out a little to help with that problem. Is there anything wrong with doing that?

honestly....I rubbed my 285/75R16's onmy stock wheels with the bars cranked a little bit. It rubbed on the inner fender at full left turn. You may have trimming of the valence in order to run that size tire AFTER the prekey and the additional cranking you have planned. You know this, but wit hthe prekey, you are converting the truck to an 07 and older truck, like mine.

Here's 285/75R16 on stock wheels, cranked bars, no other lifting...

That looks pretty good. You are right, after my lift is done, my truck will very much be the height your truck is in the pic. The 285s also seem to look good in a sense its not too large of a looking tire and there is still a normal wheel well space to tire look. In other words the tires don't fill up all that space. Did your truck feel bigger after putting those tires on? Like higher to get into and just overall more taller?

Its not my truck in the pic...I dont have any pics of my truck with the 285's....I've shown you pics of mine with the 265's though. I felt both the 265 and 285 because both were mud terrains so they howled a lil bit and i felt the added weight. I'm so used to it now that i'm on 35's. Of course it felt bigger...little taller of a jump to slide into the seat. lol.

Like I said....truck height will be increased by half the difference in the tire sizes.

For some reason those 285s look huge on that truck, yet it has a body lift and pre key and shackles. I only plan on doing pre key and shackles.
