ok someone please explain all there is to know about cranking the torsion bars...im pretty sure the procedure is just jacking it up and cranking both bolts equal amounts but what are the effects of this...there has to be some sort of downfall or ford would have made them come that way...right? also how long afterwards should you get an alignment

you should get a alignment very soon after its done. yuor front end will be stiffer, you will lose upward travel or is it downward cannot remember., thats about it.

 

This threads seems a bit repetitive.

There is a search function, this has been beat to death over and over again. ****ing crank them and get it over with. Get an alignment after your done if you care about your tires. I have not noticed anything major after doing mine, but maybe a little bit of a stiffer ride.

 

You lose downtravel with cranking the bars. Your truck will also ride stiffer. And if you maxed them out, you would prematurely wear the balljoints. Take 'prematurely' lightly....it'll take years before they are gone because of cranking.

I prefer to do it on the ground. If you jack the truck up, then crank, then lower truck to see how far it grew, it's an inaccurate reading of lift. You must drive down the road a few times to let the bars 'settle'. That's why i like to do it on the ground.
