Traction bars

I have a 2008 FX4. Will James Duff Traction bars #5306 work on my truck?

In short, yes.

But confirm you do not have a 31spline axle. Eyeball the axle diameter near the U-bolts....if it's at 3", you have a 28 spline. If it's 3 1/4", you have a 31spline. You'll need to specify this to Duff when you order because the axle brackets are different between the two.

The 31spline axle was optional on the Fx4 Level II for 2008. If you do not have a Level II, this isn't a concern, #5306 is for your truck.

If I remember correctly part #5306 used to come with both plates (28-spline & 31-spline).

Way back when I purchased my setup, I know they used to offer a few different part numbers:

Part #5304 only came with a single plate for the 28 spline axle only - for something like $89.
Part #5305 only came with a single plate for the 31 spline axle only - for something like $89.
Part #5306 came with two different plates for either axle setup (28 spline or 31 spline) - for $99.

Looks like they streamlined things and now only offer the 5306 model. I assume they still come with both base plates (or perhaps a 'slotted' universal setup) since they don't differentiate or clarify any longer.

They're really great folks to talk to over the phone too if you need to dial in the precise part number you need. Plus, they're very helpful and anyone I talk to actually knows the precise product and parts needed and what not. I'm actually calling them on Monday for a Duff Bar service kit....new bushings, washers, nuts, etc. Mine are totally toast and this will be my second replacement set ordered. Perhaps I put far too much pre-load on the bushings?

The paint seems to be a little thin when you get them, so I suggest re-painting everything prior to install.

Logan, you're great with that kind of stuff.....my brain is so fried from work and old age that I haven't a clue what/when they offered stuff and under what number. All I know is my kit was purchased through the group buy here at R-F probably back in 2006 and I paid extra to have both brackets sent. I think this was prior to them having a part number for both brackets and before they had a part number for both brackets included.

Yeah I remember the group buy - I grabbed mine from them a bit later right after the website showed them and had the numbers setup.

Mad Hatter,

IF you buy the kit with both brackets AND you have a 28 spline axle and want to sell the 31 spline axle brackets, I would like to buy them.

Let me know.

E-mail me... nnf000@gmail.com, those are zeros.
