uca question (bad ball joint)

so i took my truck to get tires balanced and an alignment, the report

RR wheel bent took 14oz (to balance)
right upper ball joint (needs to be replaced, work), power steering rack leaking

so i'm going to deal with the most serious first... ball joint (i can top up the fluid on a regular basis, and rim i am dealing with)

so, upper ball joint, which is, of course, one piece with the UCA, i had several choices, the one they suggested was 195.39 plus 75 labor, comes with a lifetime limited warranty, the next was about 105.59 i think (same labour) and has a 1 year 20 000 km warranty

should i spend the extra 90 to get the lifetime warranty? i would assume that they are roughly the same part, i think they are the same brand...

For now, I'd get the cheap one to tie you over until you have enough cash to swap out your UCA's with MOOG UCA's and MOOG BJ's. Get lower BJ's while you're at it.

Search on here for MOOG BJ's. I've responded to a few threads regarding this as well as swapped out my components for MOOG's too. RockAuto is your friend!!!!

The nice thing with the MOOG's, is that you can replace the BJ itselt without having to replace the entire UCA. Ford went for the money grab of that design flaw.

You can do the upper one yourself. I did it, and it took me like 3 hours for both sides. Plus mine is nice and rusty. Alot of persuasion lol. I took it to get aligned after, and didnt need anything.

The Moog "problem solvers" are the ones you want, they are the only ones with replaceable ball joints. The benefit besides better balljoints and grease fittings is the next time you need balljoints it'll only cost you around $39 each.

the cartridge is lifetime warranty...remove it and take it to the auto parts where you purchased it or send to rock auto

cartrage, that's the frame part? but the balljoint is not lifetime?

i think i'm just going to get the moogs... 5-7 business days to my place for $50 cheaper than stock...

only question is, can i run moog on one side and stock on the other?

Yeah you can no problem. When they do the alignment it's gonna put everything where it's supposed to be.
