As the title says, I am going on my first trip, it is gonna be around 800-1,00 miles round trip and I honestly don't know what I need to get done to make sure my truck can handle the long trip. I believe it is already reliable enough as is but I wanna be 100% sure,

I have done a tune up about a year ago, I have cleaned the air filter and just changed the oil 2 days ago. My tires are good and my brakes are good, I replaced the pads about a month ago. and as far as I know everything is Status 7

The only small issues right now is the occasional code for my Cam Position sensor, My stumbling when my a/c is on ( I already put stop leak in it and more freon and still have the issue, I know I also need to get some bigger gauge wiring for my big 3 upgrade) and a pull to the right but I have some Eccentric bushings for my radius arms I need to put on.

So What do I need to do to get ready for this long drive and y'all have any other helpful tips and tricks?

I drive a thousand mile trip usually twice a year. No real preparation other than I make sure my wheels are on tight. Put a lil fire extinguisher in the back.

 

Get some rest before heading out.

Too many times, it's not the vehicle that is at fault.


Road trips are awesome.

 

My thinking on road trips is this. If you drive your truck month to month without any problems then you are good to go, but if you drive your truck month to month and have a lot of problems, then rent a car.

 

Get a wheel alignment to cure the pull. That kind of thing would drive me crazy on a long trip.

 

i will be heading to geogia in two weeks. 1000 plus mile round trip. i plan on getting tires rotated/ balanced, air pressure is right in tires and spare. extra water and what not since its supposed to be 107 here tomorrow. doing a general visual inspection. like said before if you drive your truck daily with no problems, will be good to go

 

Exactly! If you drive the truck daily with no issues, just give it a good lookover and you should be good to go!

 

Drove my truck from South Texas to Portland Oregon and back twice in a month. Only problem was a tire blow out. It runs a lot better with a/c off.
