33 MT's and tires pressure?
33 MT's and tires pressure?
Ok everyone I recently had a set of 33*11.5 16" put on my ranger. When I got them from the tire shop from being mounted they stated they put the pressure @45psi. This to me seemed way high for the weight of the truck. I put them on the truck and the ride was horrible. I dropped them to 42psi and it seemed a little bit better but still seem to be too hard. Now it is cold as heck right now and am wondering if this makes a difference in the way the tire feels and not just air pressure. If I hit a rut in the road or small bump I get this sharp clunk of the tires. The tires state only Max pressure of 80psi and nothing else about pressure. What is everyyone running their MT's at? Is 42 still too high? I did the body lift and no suspension changes and this thing rides like it is running with out shocks over small bumps in the road.
Any help would be surly appr. I was thinking I should be running around like 33-36 psi but I am unsure as this is my first set of MT's.
Thanks again, Rob

Less will also be better for traction and treadwear. The BFG AT's I have on the truck now were at like 40 psi IIRC and I lowered them down to 34 psi. The wear pattern is still in the center of the tire so i'm going to try 30-31 psi. I'd try 32-35 psi and see how they are.
if you have some white chalk, draw a nice line across your tires. (if you have dry roads) drive down the street, stop and take a look at the ware pattern from the chalk. if its wore off in the center, its to much air. keep doing it until you ware the chalk off all the way across the tire, bingo. Our jeep was 28 psi front /rear, with 15x10s and 33 procomps. (3.75 BS)
I did last night take the pressure down to 36psi and man what a difference. I think I may go a bit lower on them after a few days of riding on them. The difference was very noticible right from the start. They feel so much softer now and not as harsh.
Thank for all the input everyone.
