Last week and a half we've had some good rain here. Some of you might have even seen on the news that El Paso, TX was getting flooded, etc. Well, my All-Terrains were getting pretty thin in the teeth. I almost rear-ended someone because of how lacking in tread I was getting. That was last Friday. I placed a call while on a 15 min break at work a couple of hours later I popped into Discount Tire and paid for the tires above. They weren't suppose to be in until tomorrow or Monday, but they came in today. I had just gotten home for my 1 hr lunch break and was getting ready to put Miracle Whip on my sandwich when my phone rang. This is so-and-so at Discount Tire, we have 4 tires here for you. I asked how long it would take to get the mounted, 40 minutes. I said I'd be there in 5-10. I had to run work related errands after lunch in their area anyhow.

Anyone have a worn, but somewhat decent 33x10.50x16 (yes 16, not 15...do they even come that size? 33x10.50x16...gonna have to check now) All-terrain or Mud-terrain I can use as a fullsize, limp me home, spare? I kept one of my 31 ATs for the time being. I'm ditching the p235/r70/16 Continental spare.

Jeff not trying to totally rip your *** here but you ever drive a daily driver alot with Mud tires? i had the Cooper STT which had 100% no sipping at all, "worse" then BFG M/T in the rain. which i am still trying to figure out why people get freaked out with mud tires they arnt that bad at all, you just cant be stupid with them. no power sliding in the rain or you will see your own *** whip on you. other then that no problems ever...

until i hear otherwise its kinda odd your giving mud terrain advise and never really had them for a long time...personally i think people get scared of them...

how did i change my mind well i dont recommed mudders for 2wd trucks it sucks bad in winter but being next truck will be 4x4 i miss mudders, they have there qualities.

plus i am a person that will replace a mudder now about 4000 before it needs it just to save the ****tieness they get like the horrible balancing and the BAD humming they get when there that old...

if you drive smart mudders are fine the way they are, you just cant treat them like A/T's or street tires the min you do, they show you how much of a moron you are. you have to 100% change your driving habits after you do your fine...

I'm not too worried about wet traction for the rest of the year. We're going to be exitting our monsoon season within the next 2 to 2.5 months. We do get some winter rains, even snow which is typically once a year and about only 1-2 inches, but for the most part I should be driving them on relatively dry surfaces at least while on-road. I was out last night with a friend that's been running BFG ATs and MTs for the whole time he's had his truck. He liked the ATs, but with us both working out in the field looking for reptiles (it's his job and it's also what he's doing for his Master's Degree) and hitting various habitats, included riparian, he's found the MT to be a much better tire. We did get to talking about them for street use and he basically has echoed what some of you have expressed. You have to change your driving habits some. Him and I are both aggressive drivers, him more so, and I for one have already backed off just due to the fact that I'm close to needing new brakes (pondering that rear explorer swap for when I grab new brakes); coupled with having larger tires now.

We'll see so far I like them. It's only 1 inch added clearance and doesn't seem as noticeable, but yet it appears like more sunlight is under my truck. I like that.

Anyhow, thanks again guys for the comments and concerns. There might be some wheeling pics in the near future. I mean, hell, after all they are new off-road tires. They need to be initiated and know what it feels like to not pound pavement!

And before I conclude this current train of thought. I'll need to search, but recalibration? What all's involved with that for the speedo, odometer/tripometer, etc? What would be a good price for such to be done? I want to keep track on mileage with these 33s and in order to do so accurately I'd need to recalibrate. Unless there's another formula to use other than just simple miles divided by gallons (being friends with a math major, I'm 99.9999999999% sure there's a formula).

 

RPS has the calculator that does the formula for you, in the tech section.

 

yea you can use the rps one, or find the revs per mile of your old size divided by the new size, then mustiply your speedo and tripometer by that...
