31's vs. 32's

Hey guys ive got a 05 ranger level II w/ the original 31x10.50 bfg at's. the tread is getting low so i will need to buy a new set of tires soon, i am thinking on 32x11.50 bfg mt's. i was wondering about fit and performance (power, milage) the last thing i want to do though is lower my gas milage. i thought since it has 4.10 gears it might make it better by lowering my rpms at cruising speed. but i guess it would have opposite affect at start off... let me know, thanks

The 32's would lower your gear ratio slightly, but it would also increase your rolling resistance with the wider tires

More rotational mass too, MPG's will slightly drop. The difference wont be too noticable,
Remember to calculate for the new size before determining actual MPG loss.

his truck came stock with 31's, going to a 32" tire the speedometer isn't going to be off by much.

do it, you won't regret it.

Or in some of our cases.. even jumping to a 33" tire the speedo is dead on.

And yeah, I woudl recommend the 32x11.5's myself as well.. highway mileage will probably increase, with city mileage dropping ever so slightly depending on your driving habits.

yep yep

you will definitely not notice a difference in mpg going up 1" in tire. But it will look so much better!

X2 on looking Soo much Better........

But..
31 At are fine as well.
so idono when i swapped my tires from a 255/16 michelin crap over to the 265/75/16 (32'')bfg mud's it was sorta night and day, the bfg Handel better, ride smother sound cooler And hands down look so much better but the truck did get slower and loose mileage every where...

Believe me.....32's look SOOO much better on a stock truck than 31's do. Yes...you will lose some mpg(1 is what i lost), but I got better highway mileage with the 32's than the 31's. DO IT!!

yeah, you have a 4.0L SOHC engine, you shouldn't really notice the tire size to much and you'll probably lose 1mpg (maybe) in city but cruising on the highway you'll get better as it lowers the RPMS just a bit, you have enough power to move the tires around. I have 4.10's and a 3.0L and I'm thinking about jumping up to 33's lol.

With my 32s and 3.0 I actual get the same city mileage as stock and better highway mileage. If I baby it I can get 18/22.

In all reality....the tire size isn't that much bigger....not much more weight, not much more resistance......

I went from stock Edge tires to 32's and have no regrets and would do it again if I were given the chance.
