BF Goodrich or Mickey Thompson
BF Goodrich or Mickey Thompson
My Ranger will need tires in the next few months so I thought I would start looking at my options. I see lots of mention of the BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2, and most people speak very highly of them. That is one of the possible upgrades, my other would be the Mickey Thompson Baja STZ or Baja MTZ. I don't see many people on here mention any thing about Mickey Thompson, and I just find that a bit odd.
Anybody running any Mickey's on their Ranger?
Also, I drive my truck to and from work everyday and its about 22 miles, so i'm sure either tire will be fine for that and much better in the snow and ice then the stock Goodyear's. But I'd be more interested on how either of these tires perform on a 500 or 600 mile haul up to Maine or out to Ohio.

A/T's are still good for that. Its all up to you, I love mud terrains so I would go with them but they also wear a lot quicker. You could get 60-80,000 miles out of the A/t's but with the M/t's your only gonna get like 40K. So its all how much you want to spend.

Maybe they were the bajas or something lol. All I know is I went to Big O tires and asked for some 33 R18s and he gave me 2: Falkens and Mickeys. The Falkens were ATs and were around $900 and the Mickeys were over $2000
If a DD and you do not need the MT get BFG ATs the latest ones with the bars on the side.
Look good, work OK off road and are quiet on the street.

Goodrich a/ts are the S*%T. That was my last set I had and they were awesome on and off-road. The last time I went wheeling the guy I was with had a/ts and he went through what I did just as easily as I did with m/ts.
You can't go wrong with either tire. I narrowed it down to KM2's and MTZ's also. My 35's were $210 each for the KM2's and about $265 for the MTZ's. The MTZ's were just about impossible to get ahold of anywhere in the U.S. and the price difference wasn't worth it to me so I went with the BFG's. They are awesome tires, even for a daily driver. They are going to wear faster than an AT and make a little more noise but if you can live with that you'll be more than happy. There are a few members on here that run MTZ's, I've never heard anything negative said about them performance wise.
I am currently running a set of MTZ's and LOVE them. They are quiet, ride smooth on the road and have excellent traction off-road. They are almost like a cross between a real Mud-Terrain and an All-Terrain. I paid $230 each (285/75/16) at the local tire shop. I have had BFG AT's and MT's in the past which are both great tires but I have to say that I prefer the MTZ's.
I paid $1280 for 4 33x12.5 ATZ's and 4 15x8 Classic ll's...
I love mine they only time they roar is when im between 20-40 mph. I've had them since March and i've put 1500 miles on them and they still have the nipples on them. They work great in the rain i haven't got to use them in the snow yet but im sure they will do fine. I went with ATZ's because i have to take my truck down a muddy logging road for 2-3 miles while im pulling a trailer with a fourwheeler on it to get where i can unload my fourwheeler to get where i hunt.

MT mtz do not last long on tarmac at all. And the suck in the snow. Atz is way better for driving and snow. Bfg\'s would be better imo....cheaper........i have both MT ATZ and BFG\'s. Like them both

Thanks for all the input guys -- I have one question on the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO -- How are they in winter -- or in snow? The OEM Wranglers are really bad in the snow -- Don't need another pair like that.

They handle really great in snow/ice. Plus, It always helps to have some weight in your bed in the winter. Our rigs are so friggin light.
I would look at 2 ATs if I were you: The BFG AT T/A KO, they are a great tires all around.
And I would look at the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac. They are literally the most aggressive AT on the market. They hum a bit on the road but the off road performance is incredible for an AT. They are just in between an AT and an MT. Tread life might not be as good as the BFG but when you do your off road logging you will notice a difference.
I'm the minority here, but I hated the BFG ATs that came on my truck. They were very mediocre at everything and not spectacular at anything. My wrangler MTRs are fantastic. I little loose in the rain but fine in snow.
