How big can I go on an 89 ranger 2.9l 2 wheel drive???
I just bought this truck as a work truck and right now it has the little 14 inch wheels with some 195/70/r14 tires on it. The previous owner put some steep gears in it and with the auto/od transmission it is doing like 3000rpms at only 65 mph. I want to go with something taller and even wider if I can get away with it. That way the highway rpms will go down, and it will give the truck a little higher stance. How big can I go keeping the stock 14" wheels, and what could I do if I switched to some other stocker 15-16" wheel??? thanks.

I am running 225/65/r14 on mine with a homemade lift and rub the front at full turn on lottle bumps but other than that its great. Look at Uniroyal Liberator 14s they are really ther only option you have for the 14 inch tire. If you get 15s then i wouldnt go higher than a 29 inch tire overall. I really dont think it would help your RPMsthat much.
