I want soft 8s. What are the Best 15" width and backspacing to have to run 33 12.50s

Kinda Stuck Between KM2s and Wrangler MT/Rs

Ive seen the KM2s in action and I really like them but I have also read that the MT/Rs are Great in Sand... Sand is most of the wheeling I do besides some Snow and Mud from time to time......

This Is what im saving to do next... Screw the new phone I want to go up finally. Might take me a few months do to money being tight but I would like to figure out what im gonna get so I can buy the cheaper stuff first then save for the Largest part (Tires)

Ive been looking at Online Tires and Tire Rack If anyone knows of other decent priced sites let me know please

 

I'm looking more towards the mtr myself because of the multi purpose tread design. They look like a more streetable tire, but I could be way off

 

15x8 3.75 bs and -19mm os gonna be common and is recomended for our trucks, as for the tires i vote mt/r's goodyear>bfg anyday

Hard decision both are great tires. I love my KM2s though, all I really use them in is snow and sand and have never had a problem in either. I don't think it would be a bad choice going with either, I would just go with whatever is cheaper.

 

for how cheap MTR's with Kevlar have gotten, i would go with those. But then again, PLENTY of people can vouch for KM2's on rangers here.

 

i havent had the MTR's so i wont say anything about them but my KM2's are awesome in the sand, they actually suprised me the first time in the dunes with them and they are great on the road. ive got 10,000 miles on mine and they still look brand new.

 

The KM2s are about $30 more for 4 than the MTRs are.

if you can score old MT/R's i would go that route. i had some in 35 and 37 and they are epic. there amazing in snow and sand and have great tread ware, but the KM2 is a great tire too.

one thing you may want to factor in at this pioint is wieght. try and get specs on that, if your running 3.73's that may help on the slugishness. with 4.10's its not as much of a factor

 

I have 4.10s with LS and I think like 2.5 inch stock blocks in the rear and Leveled with a TBar Crank

 

go with the KM2... great for sand, weighs a lot less than the Kevlars, plus the old MTRs are super noisy on the road and wear/ride poorly on the road. the KM2 is a great tire, everyone has them for the fact that they are awesome, you wont be disappointed.

 

The KM2 is much lighter, and much smoother and quieter from everything I have heard, based on those who have owned both for a longer period.

whatttt they got cheaper? MT/Rs were a hell of a lot more expensive than pretty much everything out there when I was looking for tires.

as for the discussion, I have only talked to guys with the big *** variety of MTR, like in the range of 40".. And we were at Katemcy where even a street tire would have more traction that you would know what to do with, but those guys seemed to like them.. Other than that I can only vouch for the KM2..

I do know the KM2 has a pretty weak sidewall, so if your planning on airing down a lot on the sand I would personally stay away.

 

youre the only one ive ever heard say anything about the sidewall on the KM2's. most of my offroad time with my KM2's have been aired down to 10 PSI in the sand and ive never had an issue. the sidewalls are stiffer than my BFG AT's i ran before that.

 

They might be more expensive if you go up in rim size, I just looked for the 33x12.5x15 size.

 

can't go wrong with either, both have awesome traction

KM2's are slightly smoother and a little less noisy but the MT/R's are far from annoying. My buddies km2's have the same mileage as my MT/R's and so far there both wearing the same.

I'd say the MT/R's are grippier though

 

ive ran both..

MTRs on my black ranger and KM2s on my level II and to tell you the truth I like both, both wear good on roads. Do good in mud/sand, never had em in snow. both hum pretty good..both look good

id say whatever is cheaper is what I would get. Both are good brand tires..

 

From a local forum I've seen about 6 or so KM2s have their sidewalls destroyed wheeling. None in person though. I think it depends on the terrain you're wheeling. I'm also stuck in the middle of which I like more. Kevlar MTR are more expensive than the KM2 everywhere I've looked.

 

Love my KM2s. A guy at work has the MTRs and he loves them. He said the sidewalls hold up better, but I don't ram curbs or rock crawl so I dont have any issues.

 

Here is a thought, depending on your rim size, go with a metric tire, heavier ply rating and you get heavier side wall.
I am using a 6 ply+ tire (285x75x16) and I have to run 18psi in the rear and 20 in the frt to get them to ride OK on the street but I am ASSUMING they side wall will hold up good on the trail when aired down more.
I too, have never heard anything about the sidewalls n the KM2s just the MT & MTRs.
