I've been watching craigslist for wheels lately and noticed that many of the sets are missing center caps. Why is this? Are center caps prone to flying off with use or are some people just lax and lose them?

i kept mine when i sold my stock wheels

 

alot of people use them with their new rims if theyll fit

 

I know I kept the centercaps when I sold my old set of rims, and I would have kept the other ones but right before the guy drove off he asked about them so I had to produce them out of the garage for him.

 

I sold my center caps before I tossed my stock rims.

 

I kept my center caps when I went to the Mickey Thompson Classic II's from the stock and used them on the new wheels. Must be pretty common.

 

yeah, thats what i did too.

i hate the look of the stupid chrome centercap with the lugnuts around it.

 

What I'm seeing on CL (quite a bit) is decent looking wheels with 2 or 3 caps missing, so naturally I blow them off and move on. However, I didn't know if it was a common fault of wheels with caps or just defective owners so I thought I'd ask here. I appreciate all your responses and will put a check mark by defective owners...

i had the same problem looking for aftermarket rims for my truck. center caps are expensive.

 

I looked on ebay earlier and i saw a few of them for sale just so you know.
