Hey guys, last week i got a set of tires mounted up. 265/75/16's.

As soon as i saw the truck i was dissapointed with the look. The tires just didnt look as aggressive as on the showroom floor. Though they are a high quality tire... it just left me dissapointed.

I talked to the tire shop today and they are willing to replace my tires with whatever i want to go with. (out of the brands they sell)

So my choices are

BFG AT's

Nitto Terra Grapplers (Essentially a Toyo Open Country)

Or Bridgestone Revo's


Ive ruled out the Yokohama Geolanders, they just dont look aggresive enough for me.

And this is about all my choices.

Im also trying to decide whether to run a 265/75/16.. a 275/70/16 or a 285/75/16 (which i think would be a damn tight fit on my 08')

Please give me some feed back ASAP, i have to get this swap done by friday!

I had ats on until a little while ago, in 265/75 16 and they are a great tire. I don't know if I would go much bigger the 265s didn't rub but it was close. My mud terrains rub a tiny bit, and they are 265s as well so a 285 is almost guaranteed to rub. Unless you're planning a lift I would stay at 265.

 

Yeah i just went and checked and i have no clue how people are getting 33's on their 08's without rubbing. I think 265/75/16 is my maximum.

It just looks skinny which is why i was thinking about the 275/70/16's... hmm

 

I would love to go M/T but with our icey winters up here is would be pointless.

 

You can clear a 285/75/16, the terra grapplers will not give you the look you want...they only look good on a wide rim IMO and the same goes for the yokohama. My question is this, if the place you are buying from sells the BFG AT then I would assume it sells the new BFG KM2 tires, BFG has just released the new more traditional sizes in this tire, I would see about getting some of them, if you can.

And post a side pic of your truck with the new 265/75/16 tires on it. I would bet you can clear a 285, it may rub a little if you do some hard wheeling.

Its pretty close to rubbing right now... about 1" of clearance at the flares on a full crank







and i wouldnt touch BFG MT KM2's... i dont think they would do anything on snow/ice

 

BFG A/T's are good in snow and ice, well does any tires do well on ice? They are a decent tire in some respects, but I don't really care for them anymore. Mine ride quite rough and from what I hear outside of RF that is very typical of BFG's.

 

I see a lot of trucks that run mud terrains all year, though I don't see how they can be any good I plan to find out. I ran my ats last winter and they are awesome in snow. They pack up in sticky slush but not bad. 4 low with the all terrains was good for loose snow up to the bumper and would stay up on top of any packed or harder snow. I still might put them on a set of steelies and run them as winter tires.

Though I really do like these mts lol.

 

I'd go with the Terra Grapplers, they are good tires and IMO better looking too. They are usually a decent amount cheaper then the BFGs also. I would have got them on my truck but they don't make them the size I need.

If you think BFG A/T's ride rough try a M/T. A/T's ride far from rough IMO.

 

I think a 285 can be done if your willing to dump the mud flap part of the flare, atleast on the front. Do you have the t-bars cranked?

I would go with the BFG AT, out of those three, that is, since you dont want the KM2...lol I live in the south, so I dont have to worry about snow and ice like you do, so that thought never cross's my mind.

I had a set of 295/75/16 terra grapplers, like I said before, the grappler looks good mounted on a wide wheel, but looks weak on a narrow wheel. Dont get me wrong, its a good tire, I just dont like it on a narrow rim. Thats the reason I got rid of the set I was running.

So the 08 Mazda's sit low like the 08 + Ranger 4x4's? does your truck have any rake to it, it looks like it sits level, more level than any truck I have ever seen.

 

My BFGs ride super smooth, I keep them rotated every 5000 miles though. I really love these tires

and 15x10 on 11.5 tire is part of your problem...

 

Tbars are cranked, and yes its perfectly level...

And yep the 08' mazda's have the lowered ride height.

Im going to see if i can get a 285' mounted on the truck, just to see if it will rub... otherwise 265' is as big as it gets.

Mr. Special has some 275/70R16. On BFG AT's, they are 31.2's, smaller in OD than 265/75/16 (31.8) You should check his truck out.

I really wanted the Nitto Terra Graplers but I have heard that they wear fast and unevenly because of their softer compound. People usuay get anywhere from from 10k - 40k miles on them.

 

I said REVOs because I had them and loved them, but if you want Terra Grapplers, get toyo open countries, they last longer. Don't be like every other truck on the road sand get plain jane BFG ATs that love to pick up pebbles. Before I traded the truck in, i put 35,000+ miles on them in about 16 months and they still had at least a year on them at 20+k.

 

245/75R16 BFG Long Trail T/A Tour's....

They ride like a dream, you'll feel like your floating over the road. As for off road....they won't get you far...

 

Yeah i love this truck^^^ i have PM'd Mr. Special about his set up many times... I always thought i would go 275/70/16.....

I kinda like the extra height with the 265/75's tho

Im going with the BFG's... with mixed feelings.

I cant run a mud tire....since i need good grip on snow and ice...

Terra Grapplers dont do it for me... The Revo's are unbeleivably expensive up here in canada, so the BFG is the most aggresive looking tire, and its Severe service rated (mountain + Snow Flake)... they are going on tommorow.

After talking to the dealership im going to stick with 265/75/16's... the service manager tells me anything bigger, like the 285/75/16's is going to cause a problem with my warranty... and i think they are going to look just wayyy to stuffed.

I also noticed my brakes feel different with these bigger tires?! I notice the ABS is kicking in alot more.

From what i have read going to a 285' would make this more apparent... and with all the ice and snow build up we get up here in the winter inside the fenderwell i think i might throw a flare or have serious rubbing.

I definatly love the road feel with these Nokians... and they are supposed to be awesome on ice...(its a 5ply P rated tire, and only 42lbs) but the look just isnt aggressive.

I had a set of these for a while before i got Hercules Trail Diggers. They had really good traction on the road and still pretty good off the road. Never had them in snow before thou.

Complete garbage. I had those on my old Bronco, what a waste of money. Those are not AT's at all. They were horrible off-road (and I'm not talking mud either, just easy trails w/sand.)
