Im just waiting for some good snow so I can try out my tires. I looked and my Kumho A/T's dont have a sever service rating but every where I have seen it compaired to BFG A/T's it says they do better then the BFG's. I really need to try these things out.

Well dunno 'bout ya'll, but I have Goodyear Wranglers with Silent Armor that have the little snow flake on them. We haven't had any good snow so I don't know how they'll do. And I know just cuz they have the cute little snow flake don't mean they'll be good in snow.

Not trying to be a thread thief, how would wrangler's run in the snow?

malydeen, I heard that BFG's are good tires and they work wonders off road. How much do they run per tire /set of 4?

Yeah, the BFG All Terrains have always did me well. I'm constantly in the mountains snowboarding or with my buddies snowmobiling so I've gone through quite a bit of snow with them. All I'm saying is personally I will stick to my BFG A/T tires!

Just to stir the pot a guy I work with drives an 08 tacoma with bfg ats and he got stuck twice on the way to work and was over 2 hours late. I was 15 mins early. Ranger FTW!

I would beg to differ. You ever seen a winter in Canada? I can see Canada through the windows of my house and catch their snow. Theres a GOOD difference between AT type tires and snow tires.

Im glad you think those tires are a waste of money, I'm sure they are cheaper then the deductible of most insurance companies and time spent looking for a new ride.

I've been driving in Snow ( WNY/Canada ) since before your folks wasted energy on you ( 1979 ). Heres a few clues..

I'll put myself in my LOWERED 2wd Ranger against YOU in your rice in a WNY/Canadian snow ANY DAY and bet I stay on the road a whole lot better.

Driver skill/experience is the #1 factor of all of it. The yards here are filled with all kinds of 4x4/awd cars/trucks from out of state students ( mostly southerners ) whom are under the FALSE belief that 4x4/awd will do better/save them in the snow.

My Wrangler RT/S's suck balls in the snow and ice. May as well have slicks. Put in in 4 wheel drive and it's just 2 more tires with no control.

I dont know if anyone has run these, but my michelin ltx AT's perform very well in the winter. I dont believe they make the kind I have on my truck anymore though.

RT/S's and the Wranglers I have, have two different tread types. Mine are all terrains.

I've never run these in the snow yet, as we've not had any since I got them, so I'm not sure how they'll perform.

Which I agree with D., if ya ain't got the experience, what you have don't mean squat.

Ranger Guy15, Michelin's are very good tires.

The new michelin ltx at2s are a really good tire for snow. My old man has them on his toy and it will 4lo through bumper deep snow right beside my ranger. A lot of guys at work run them as well, always hear good things about them.

there are some interesting video's on you tube, by proffesional drivers, showing the handling and control characterisitcs betweem 2wd and 4wd in slippery and out of control conditions.

D you think a 2wd will out do a 4wd in the winter? Come up to my part of the canadian mountains and your 2wd wont even get out of the driveway let alone through a mountain pass.

Dont get me wrong, 4wd doesnt make you invisible, nor should it be an excuse to drive double the speed limit in a blizzard, but it makes a world of difference.

And ive owned a 2wd ranger for comparison.

Well if you have the money, go ahead and buy a second set of rims and snow tires. To each his own. Im just saying that its not a bad idea to just run A/T's year round.

As for getting into an accident...it wont be my fault so I won't be paying the deductible. unlike most people I drive with the conditions. I slow down I try not to use the brakes or over accelerate. If you know how to drive in the conditions you wont have any problems, no matter what tires you have.

My general rule is slow down, turn off the radio, put down the drink and give the person in front of me room. Most crashes are not 'accidents' and can be completely avoided.

They don't make them anymore, they were replaced buy the LTX A/T 2, which SUCK! They are loud and ride ruff. They dont have the greatest traction to them and they are pretty expensive.

For the other argument 4x4 is better than 4x2. However the driver is 95% of the equation. I have gone thru mud holes and climbed dirt hills that others in 4x4's could not do. This was because of driving styles. I have also gone thru mud holes and had no problems in a 4x4 while buddies with the same basic truck would get stuck.

The two big factors are tires and drivers. I love the guys that try to tell me how four-wheel drive helps you keep speed, steer, and stop in snow. They can't understand it only helps you take off.


And Mr. socal I know you say you have lived in MN. However I am forced to believe you did not live there for long if at all. This just comes from your use of the word "BRO". That’s straight up a Cali thing.
