It should be all good.

I didn't know it, but when my truck was lifted I ran 35x12.50x15's w. 3.55's... lol

Do ya need them? If you have terrible gears and not little money, maybe you should heh.

You're 2wd i bet? You could just regear the back end.

But that money could afford a lotta beer, hookers, and blow, ya know

HAHA no i dont really NEED new gears.....im just concerned that it will hurt my mpg too much. I plan on going the 285/75r16 route if i do decide to lift or keep it stock on some 31x10.50...and by the way it is in fact a 4x4.

If you need to be talked in to them then you don't need them. 31's should do fine.

Ya jus go 31s. Are you sure your truck has 3.73s? Depending on year, if you had the 4.0 you were supposed to have 4.10 axles.

Well i dont really need to be talked into them....i just need info on doing it due to a few concerns i have. The truck is a 99 x-cab 4x4 with tow package and the code im reading on the differential tag reads: "3L73 88 9D22" so am i correct in assuming i have 3.73's?

What could i expect my mileage to be with the 33's and 3.73s?? i'd like to maintain at least 15-16mpg......but if thats only possible with re-gearing then i guess thats what i'll have to do.

That assumption sounds right. The first part of your axle code indicates 3.73 LSD in the 8.8" housing. I believe the second half has something to do with manufacture date, but I don't know how to read it.

I run 265/70R16 (essentially a 31") on my 02 - 4x4, 4.0 and 4.10's. It's not really sluggish, per se, but I wouldn't go larger without regearing. For you, I think 33's would be really pushing it with the 3.73. It's not that it won't move, but I think you will get pissed off just with normal driving. On top of that, towing wouldn't really be an option. I'm sure there are those that have run 33's with the 3.73, maybe they can chime in with a voice of experience. That's just my 2 cents, good luck with whatever you decide on.

i had 33x12.5'x on my '97 with a 4.0 w/ automatic tranny and 3.73 gears....runs fine...i got about 15-16 mpg no matter what......had plenty of power.....besides if you are running a 33 on a ranger you are not going to be racing it....
