Thinking about going bigger

Okay excuse a newbie here. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 2WD XLT and it has 14" wheels on it. I was hoping to get some bigger wheels to fill out the wheel wells more. So what I'd like to do is get some stock 15" wheels and put bigger tires on them.

Mind you I have always been a car guy, Mercedes AMG's specifically so when people talk about 31" tires I have no clue what the heck their talking about since I've always went by 275/35/18's etc.

Can someone help? Also if I go bigger circumference than the original 14" wheel with the 225/70/14's on it the speedometer will be off. Can you recalibrate the speedometer for the larger size tire?

Go to http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

This will help you compute everything, even how much your speedo is going to be off.

You can get your speedo recalibrate, I think Superlift sells a controller for it, as well as an Xcal 2, hell you can even got to the stealership and they will be able to do it for you. You are going to have to pay a pretty penny though.

And think about the 31" tire size. It is 31" in circumference, hence the 31"
Rim size does not affect your speedo caliubration. It is the diameter of your tire that will do it. If your going from a 31x14 to a 31 x 15, the outside tires size is the same, but your profile (sidewall) of the tire changes.

Okay I found a set of 15" wheels to buy and I hope to pick them up this week. I just have to figure out what size tires to get. I want to go a bit bigger but not crazy big. Here's a photo of my truck. What do you guys recommend?

just do a 245 or I guess it would be like a 29/15 should fill in the wells and not change anything to much

I suggest stock 15x7" wheels...any style...i like the five spokes found on Edges and XLT's of later years....and throw on some 235/75R15's. Beefs up the look of the 2wd coil spring trucks.

OR....go for a fat look....255/60ish R15.
