Try running the MT/R in packed snow ....
rain, slush or other normal winter driving conditions
Like any other mud type tire they will
to put it bluntly.. Suck.
Being unsiped has advantages offroad.. no chunking.
but onroad you lose the "biting edges" that they provide
also believe it or not siping lets the tire run cooler and wear better.

To sum it up.
They do look great.. and perform GREAT offroad. They are also
outrageously expensive(to me) and their road manners while equiv.
to a mud type tire are not great.

I would take my MT/R in winter weather over my stockers anyday and they will also be getting siped very soon. perks of working in a tire shop!

Man, I'd take just about ANYTHING over the stock tires, lol!

The siping issue is a good one. Some siping is good and in rain and snow more can be better; but too much weakens a tire so I guess you just make your compromises according to your needs.

Neglecting the fact that Gil likes to talk a lot I will point these two things out about GY MT/R's

They come stock on Rubicons
Thought they came stock on H1's-like the one i saw at the the auto show, but not so, they are an option however.

So perhaps argueablly the two best offroad vehicles "out of the box" you can buy from a dealer come equipped with MT/R's. That's gotta say something...not sure if it says GY paid off GM and DC or if they are just that good. I don't doubt they are good. I would have considered them, but I got my BFG M/T's basically at half price after all the discounts while I was working at NTB.

No way Neil. First I think they only introduced the Rubi in 03. And second they introduced the Rubi with MT/R's.

OK let me change that - for the model year 2004 when I test drove Wranglers and Rangers the Rubicons that I was going to buy were equiped with BFG M/T....Tomb Raider editions?? - instead I got a Level II Ranger which displayed less plastic pieces for me to beak off, happy now?

and what about Saturday - is the mini meet on and are we working inside or out?

What are you talking about? They will walk all over BFG MTs in teh mud all day long!

Have you had both tires? You dont seem to speak from experience.

If you are gettign stuck with MTRs (with good tread left) and I see you have 4WD, you must not have good offroad skills. Granted there are huge holes blah blah that will swallow any tire, but overall these tires jsut plain WALK!

Neil, not to say you didnt see what you saw, but i dont think even the tomb raider rubi were supposed to have bfg m/t's. I think the dealer did something

And on a sidenote, I am dissapoint...look at what the jeep in the movie was:

And this is what jeep was selling:

I mean c'mon...where is Angelina Jolie...atleast give me a full size blow up doll over her...um, wait...i mean where is the snorkle, lift, custom bumper, winch, and hey...those are baja claws on the one in the movie

they don't clear out mud as well as the bfg's considering i was down at camp jeep 2004 this year listening to people who had called the goodyear company because they thought the mud terrains should be better. Goodyears response they aren't mud tires they are maximum traction radials not mud terrain tires. Dissapointment was all around on every trail ride they were out performed unless we were on rocks because the gripping ability and strength are amazing.

but i probably don't know anything about offroading
