Upgrading my tires, looking for some some pics.

Hey all...

First off I have tried the search function, but this is a fairly specific request and somewhat difficult to search for.

I have a 2008 2wd ranger sport with 235x75x15 goodyear SR-A tires now.

I live in Canada and have to deal with lots of snow in the winter. As a result I have decided to upgrade my tires in the near future to Firestone Destination A/T's. They have received numerous excellent reviews regarding their snow performance. I have priced out 30x9.5x15's at my local shop ($772.00 out the door). I know this may seem high as they are just $100 a tire on tirerack but the shipping to Canada and then mounting / balancing kills the deal ($180 to ship plus the cost of mounting/balancing)

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of their truck with 30x9.5x15 tires at stock height? ie no lift.

I have found pictures with lifted trucks but it's hard to find non lifted pictures.

Thanks for your time,

Mike.

30x9.5's would look tooooo small on there. slight torsion crank(to get it back up to 07 spec) and 31's would look good. Very common actually.

I'm with Shane 31s would look great. Too bad Ford lowered the 08 4x4s some, 32s look better than everything.

I agree. And get some bfg's or general grabbers, I've heard all bad about firestone.

Yeah I agree with everyone else. Get the BFG A/T's. They are supposed to be one of the best for snow. I wont ever need mine for know, but I love them! Go with 31's. If you are going to spend that much you might as well get a bigger size so you dont decided 6mo-year later you want bigger. Atleast with 31's you will be good to go untill you decide to lift it if you do.

How would 31's affect performance??? I only have a 3.0? I do have 4.10's though.

I'll get a price on some 31's both Firestone and BFG, then see where I go from there. I probably won't be buying until September or October just because I need that time to save the money. I wish I could get US prices up here in Canada....

Thanks for the opinions.

The sports hang lower than the edges? I figured they would be the same stuff, 33s fit on the edges and 4x4s with just a torsion crank.

There's no reason to buy from the us, you can get tires locally I'm sure of it. Just make it clear that you're going online to buy the same tires if they won't cut you a deal.
Don't buy firestone, get some bfg a/ts or, michelin at2s. The michelins are a pretty amazing tire in snow etc. and have the manners of a street tire. And they're rarer than bf's and look badass too.

OK, so I went to get some prices on 31's today....

BFG AT 31 " - $225 a tire in canada - (That is including mounting balancing warranty etc...)

Firestone Destination AT - 31" - 185 a tire.

The BFG's are over a thousand dollars canadian which is insane! That double the Tirerack price. I'm simply not willing to pay that.

And I do agree that 31 will be better than 30.

The 31's wont rub though right?? even though i have an 08 and it's an inch shorter?

Thanks for all the opinions.

here's 31's on an xcab...

I just checked Costco Canada online, and they have the BFG AT KO's for 195 a tire which is only 10 bucks more than the destinations, so if that is including mounting/balancing than that is fine with me.... there may be some hope for the BFG's yet.

I will admit I love the look of the BFG's

Yea 10 dollars more a tire is pretty tolerable. I think 31 BFG's would look great on your truck, and as far as performance you shouldn't have any trouble with the 4.10's, it might even help your gas mileage by lowering your RPM's when cruising down the freeway.

negative.......do some searching, lower rpm does not always mean better gas mileage.... the 3.0 is a revvy motor....you would get better cruising at 2900 rpm's instead of 2200 rpms....

Well, if your worried about gears.

I'm running 4.10's with 32's and I have the 2.5L in my truck.

It still has power, but not so much when its really hot outside.

According to Costco's Canadian Site the 31x10.5x15 BFG A/T KO's are 195 a tire including mounting/balancing/warranty etc....

So that comes to 195x4x1.13(for 13% taxes) = 881, which is only about $20 more than my quote for the 31" Destinations. So assuming these prices are correct, I will most likely get the BFG's. I just have to wait a month or maybe two to have the money to get them.

Thanks for all the help, I seriously love the look of this tire, and have also read some favorable snow performance reviews.

You wont get down to 2200rpms on the highway with a 3.0 with 4.10's and 31's. I cruise right around 2500 with 32's at 70 with 4.10's.

City mileage might go up some. I picked up about .5mpg in city. Still haven't tested full highway, but I know it'll be better.

I LOVE my BFGs in the snow, I kept up with my buddy that has a 4wd Colorado on street tires when he was starting to slip.
