batt. light illuminated???

97' 2.3 5-spd. step side short box. posted about this before; but problem was intermittent, now today the batt light on the dash illuminated itself for prolonger period of time and stayed on. before it was very shy and only on occasion. today it stayed on and i noticed that with HIGH rpm(really makin the ranger scream outa that lil 4 cyl.) that the light turned off but would flicker sometimes too. then almost any time for normal driving or idle it stayed on. i observed the batt guage and it was normal right in the middle, while if key is just on and not running (koeo) the batt guage is not quite at half, but with the batt light illuminated or not, the guage is in middle. ALSO i have 14.5 across b+ &b- with the batt light illuminated. i'm a bit confused here and am not sure what i'm missing. all connections seem tight on alternator too. any help?

It's the small connector on the alternator with only one wire that I think is white? It's loose and thats why it's doing it.
