I have been seeing a lot of posts about the X2 Tuner?? I think thats what you guys call it.. From someone named Doug..

How exactly does it work? And does it work at all for the 2002 3.0L? ?

I was going to get a Jet Performance piggyback for my truck, but if there is a tuner that can do the same thing then I would be interested in that...

If anyone has any information on it, or how it works with the 3.0 i would love to hear from you..

to me its one of my favorite mods.

btw bamachips is the only one you want to buy, it custom programming for your vehical.

 

The tuners are definitely worth it and seem to be considerably more reliable than a chip. Bama is the way to go.

 

THey are worth it. I have a regular cab 3.0L Manual transmission and when Doug tuned my truck I ran 16's where as stock I ran mid 17's in the 1/4 mile and the gas milage went from 20-22mpg to 25-27mpg. But now that I have more mods on my truck, I did my own tuning on the dyno and now run 15.8@88mph. Definately worth the money and then run a few dyno runs and then retune it to run even better based on the dyno results.

 

yeah dont go with the JET chip.. it sucks, lol. i wouldnt have it if i didnt find it so cheap.

 

If I get the tuner, you guys said I can tune it myself..

How hard is it to do??

I have a friend who has a WRX and trying to tune his Utec Engine managment system is a nightmare.. Tunning a timing map, boost map, and fuel map.. Plus figuring injector pulse, and all the other components of an Engine management system is a pain in the A$$!! Plus the 150+ page manual is not what I call light reading!!

I just want to make sure that I am not going to blow up my motor...

The X2 is very worth it. It helped me get 18-20 mpg out of my 02 Edge 4x4 3.0L w/ 33's. I now have an 04 F-150 4.6L and have the X2 on it also.

You can make you own programs, but unless you know about all that stuff that is involved it is best left to Doug, who can usually get you a custom program out in a day or two at the most.

 

Worth every penny.....im not one to notice gains but i did with this...all you do is plug it in to your diagnostic port, push what program you want....wait...and your done...it has all detailed instructions....

honestly, I do know a little about tunning. . However what I have on my truck is what I plan to keep for a while. I just want to know if I could get a set of maps optimized for my limited mods in the following ways:

Map #1. Flat Out Performance! Not worried about mileage just pure Ponies!!

Map #2. Good Balance of Power vs Fuel Consumption

Map #3. HOLY CRAP!! GAS PRICES JUMPED UP HOW HIGH??? Best Mileage possible!

Has anyone here made their own maps? I downloaded the Extreme Tune program I just can't do anything to try it out cause I don't have the programer.

i have 4 programs on my chip...

0 - Performance, 93 octane, 265/75/16 tires, (plus im sure there is more)
1- Torque, 93 octane, 265/75/16 tires, (plus im sure there is more)
2- Performance, 87 octane, 265/75/16 tires, (plus im sure there is more)
3- Performance, 93 octane, idle adjustments, timming adjustments at ****fs, 265/75/16 tires, (plus im sure there is more)


doug can do alot of what you want... then you can prolly change it too in that software.

if you want something that you just change the computer right off. digimoto is your friend.

 

it changes timeing, shift points, recallibrates speedo for gear/tire changes.

you can change your idle... x2 you can check engine codes, blah im sure there is more.

 

It's definitely worth it. I haven't even run the 93 octane settings on mine yet and i love it.

 

Have you heard of any problems where it fails programming, does it lock up the PCM? I am very interested also in getting one but that is my only fear, having a paperweight PCM.

Me too... I would love to get it.. I just want to make sure that I am not going to blow my motor up or damage my transmission.. If it's as good as everyone says it is then I think the Programmer and the Cable to make your own maps is well worth it... Best of all my wife says that she likes the idea of it and told me straight out "if it's going to give the truck more power then I am all for it.." Then she asked me if it would work with the SuperCharger when we save enough to get that next. ..

Did I mention that I LOVE my wife???

Anyway.. Will it work with MAJOR engine mods like bigger fuel pump, injectors, and the Mr. Whipple??

 

Lets say you got the programmer next month, then 6 months later you get a whipple. All you gotta do is send it back to doug and he can reprogram it for the whipple. I dont think he charges much for that either...you'll have to check with him on that

 

Well thats cool.. I read on the website that having the cable means that all I would have to do is get the new map made and I could upload it myself.. Saves on S&H charges.. Works for me...

However, I found my ECU/PCM code but on the order form it asks for the Axle Code... Where the h%LL do I find that??? Better yet,, What is that??

I have a 02 Ranger Edge 4x4... I called the dealership and they said they had no Idea what I was talking about.. Then told me that it was a bad Idea to get something that messes with the ECU cause I could "render my vehicle inoperative".. To which I replied, "Then what are you so upset about?? If I blow my truck up wouldn't that mean I would just have to come back here and spend more money on a new one?"

 

Theres a tag on the rear drive shaft right on the differental cover. it should tell you there. It will say if you have a 8.8 rear end (which you probably do) and what your gear ratio is, and also if you rear end is open of a LS....

 

The axle code is on the door jamb sticker. Assuming it is an 8.8" 4.10 axle (likely), it will be either code 97 (open) or code R7 (Traction Lok).

Yes, it is Ford's trade name for a clutch-type limited slip. It is roughly eqivalent to GM's PosiTraction.
