Fuel Gauge Issue

Hello, i have 99 ranger with the 3.0. my fuel gauge doesn't work and the "check gauge" light is on. I have replaced the fuel pump/sending unit and nothing changed. also tried seeing if i could read how much fuel there is in the tank with a computer. May prove that its not the fuel pump.
I was wondering if someone could help me on the next set maybe checking it with a voltmeter.

thanks,

I'd say throw a new cluster in it, but some might disagree and say to check elsewhere first. I though, don't know where else to check other than the cluster.

I could've swore I seen a thread a year or two ago about swapping odometers out, or spinning them back.

only thing you can do is pull the cluster out enough to make sure the wiring connectors are fully plugged in on the back of the cluster. otherwise, I don't know what it could be, IF you changed the fuel pump assembly.

My truck had a harness issue. All I had to do was jiggle the main harness going to the cluster and the fuel gauge started functioning properly again. Either one of the pins is loose or the harness itself may have a short in it. haven't figure it out yet, but since jiggling it fixed my problems I haven't been overly concerned about it.

Gonna try to explain this the best I can. On my 97, the fuel gauge pegged all of a sudden and read full. Changed the fuel pump. No dice. Well I took it in for an inspection the next day and the mechanic brought me out to show me that a wire had actually rubbed its way through on the frame and was shorting ONLY the fuel gauge wire. And since they work on resistance it makes sense it pegged full. The wire was part of a harness. If I remember right to the left of the transmission up against the frame. check there, see what you find. I never got a check gauge light but still a possibility.
