Did I add too much oil?

I added oil to my truck today to top it off. The thing is that when I checked the oil level on the dipstick it marks almost at the M on the word MAX. Did I add too much oil to damage my engine? I guess I'm just a little paranoid.

it really should be half way up the crossed section or between the 2 holes on some dipsticks.

if you're in between the marks then you're good.

Well it's a little past the second mark (second hole) should I drain some oil out? Or is it alright? I just don't want to damage my engine by having too much oil in there.

If its not like a quart too much, then you'll be ok. I usually run my truck with a fuzz over full, just for the fact that it burns a bit and more oil gets into the lifters that way.

One option is to jus replace the oil filter. That usually drains almost a qt.

It definitely isnt a quart over filled. I actually added a quart since it was at the minimum. It only about 1/4 from the second hole.

I wouldn't be worried until you were WAY past that second hole.
