I can pick up a 2003 ranger xlt 4x standard cab and 5 speed tranny, I know the original owner and has all records,he wants $2000 for the truck, in talking to him he said above 70 mph it starts to buck like it's running out of fuel, cel and abs light is on, I remember someone had a similar problem and it was a vss or rear anti lock sensor, has new front hubs 20,000 miles ago other than that it's not bad for the money, I would like to.use it for work so I don't put miles on my 02 xlt 4.0 4x4 any help would be greatly appreciated

$2,000 seems like a fair price for a straight '03 Ranger 4x4.

'99 to '05 Ranger 3.0ls did have the Recessed Exhaust valve issue, it would cause intermittent misfires at all RPMs at first then steady misfire specific to 1 or 2 cylinders.
New heads were needed for repair.

From the 3rd hand description of the problem it could just be a dirty fuel filter, or it could be start of a collapsing Cat or muffler, so exhaust is partially blocked.
You notice both of these at highway speeds at first, from either limited fuel flow or build up of back pressure in exhaust system.

I would certainly get the codes before I bought it.
