2001 Cylinder Head Torque

Can anyone please help me to get the facts straight here on the proper cylinder head torque specs for a 2001 3.0 Ranger?

Method 1:

1. 37 ft lbs

2. Loosen 1 turn

3. 22 ft lbs

4. Turn 90 degrees

5. Turn 90 degrees

Method 2:

1. Step 1: 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).

2. Step 2: Loosen the bolts one full turn.

3. Step 3: 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).

4. Step 4: 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).

I have a torque rotation meter, and would put it to good use here if necessary. So which method is recommended by Ford for the 01 Ranger? I get conflicting information from my Haynes and Chiltons manuals. Thanks!
