Can you redneck it?
To be honest I have a really big problem with K&N.
I sell Green where I work. And I get paid to slam K&N all day.
There for I have convinced myself K&N is garbage...
It might be, it might not be... Who knows?
But I was wondering if it is possible to just clamp a round replacement filter onto the factory intake tube, anyone tried it? Or ever even really cared?
Just wondering, and trying to find out if I could get some feed back.

Yeah I dropped a green pop in filter in mine. And snapped out the burley looking tube that sticks out of the airbox. And cut that hole bigger. Have you ever heard of anyone cutting a section of the top of their airbox out? Some told me to do that. But I didn't know if that would get me too much more air...

Oiled gauze is poopy!
I got a microfiber drop in filter that allows slightly more air through then oiled gauze and only maintenance required is a quick vacuming or washing every once in a while. I got mine from Bobby J.
don't cut holes in the top of your airbox, cut them in the front or fender side.

My airbox looks like swiss cheese throughout the bottom section to make sure there is no single direction water can come in and fill the intake hole. It has to rise all the way to the filter before I suck in major amounts of water. It works, as anyone who has seen me go through water can attest (see avatar shot, lol -- that was very, very deep).
Anyway, I use an Amsoil Ea filter which is microfiber and it's great. K&N doesn't give you really fine particle filtration and I don't like them. They also have a tendency to shed oil if you overdo the oiling even a bit and fouled MAF's are not uncommon.
I had an oiled foam one for awhile but I got tired of oiling that one also. The microfiber type are much nicer to my way of thinking.
