Whats the most...

Whats the maximum amount of horsepower that you think could be pumped out of the 3.0 vulcan engine without the engine blowing up? Either it be supercharged, turbocharged, or on the bottle.... or just naturally aspirated.

well out of a bottle, stock motor, i would not run mroe then a 50 shot of nitrous... that being a wet shot!!!, it can handle that, and with forced induction i wouldnt go more then 5 to 6lbs of boost or psi...

you mean it can take a 50 shot of nitrous with 5-6 pounds boost (from forced induction)? What kind of #'s would we be looking at HP wise?

no sorry i didnt explain myself a little more, you can do one of the following:

Put a bottle to it and run a 50hp shot of nitrous to it, thus getting about 50hp tot he wheels more

OR give it force induction and put 5-6 lbs of boost/PSI to the motor but no more.

i would not do both eahter one or the other... thats a pretty safe area for power adders.

And adding a 50 shot of nitrous should not hurt your motor as long as you get a wet kit which adds the apropriate amount of fuel to nitrous ratio.

lets put it this way.. most people that have installed a Whipple on a 3.0L then putting the smaller pulley on with a better tune has blown there motor... more head gaskets... pretty much on a stock motor a whipple is the only good thing.. and there not made anymore so have a fun time finding one, oh and the motor has to be an 02+ btw...

i'm currently running a 75 shot with a progressive controller, stock internals. :o)

i'd say a 50 shot is the best safe limit if you arent using a controller and want some longevity out of your engine. assuming you jet correctly (read: don't lean out), the engine should actually be able to easily handle more than a 50 shot... its our damn transmissions that are the weak link.

very true. 99% of the time, its that initial jolt to the drivetrain that causes damage, or an initial lean-out because the nitrous hits the engine before the fuel does. progressive controllers solve for both by a) ramping up power and b) delaying nitrous delivery relative to fuel.

haha... but overall if you put nitrous on just leave it with a 50 shot and it will be good..... and if you put a forced induction adder on just leave it around 5lbs

So you guys are suggesting that i dont attempt to use both Nitrous and a Turbo? Im just brainstorming right now and trying to figure out what would be the best thing to do to my truck. I want to be more involved with racing, but i dont know where to start... should i just maybe get a cheap car to tune/learn with? BTW im only 15, so excuse my newbness to this stuff.

i wouldnt run both. first of all, theres really no turbo kit for the 3.0, so you'd have to do some custom fab which would be expensive. plus, the engine would definitely need to be built up to handle both. in the end, tons of work and tons of money. you could go with a whipple if you can find one, or add nitrous, but just stick to one or the other.

honestly, i would do exactly waht you are taking about, i would first go out and buy a cheap car that you know there are TONS of parts available for.I.E. i know its a ricer but like a 92-95 honda civic and start tuning that or something cheap to tuen up and mess with and then once you start to get a better understanding of how things work and then you can get to more custom fab stuff.... just my thoughts...

its not much different than adding a whipple in terms of power added.
