This thread hasn't been used in over 8 years, not alot has changed since the original posts. Come from the wheel wells, you'll need a magnet to remove the plugs and be careful inserting the new ones that they dont fall in and crack or cross thread.

I'm going to throw in a "1 year anniversary of an 8 year old resurrection" post.

Should I change my 15 year old wires? The vehicle has only 49K!

My 2011 4.0 has 120,000 on it w/ orig plugs. Meant to do plug change awhile back.

Are you all removing just the inner fender flap (rubber flap)? Or the entire hard plastic inner fenderwell w/ the rubber flap still attached to it?

I looked, removing the splash shield will be enough.

I'll Kroil the plugs once or twice while I'm scheduling my tasks.

OK so I go to order plugs and uncover a clusterf**k for what plug p/n to use. Fordparts.com says use SP-412. But I see double platinum plugs recommended due to waste spark issue. So trying to figure out the cross reference for a Motorcraft dbl plat p/n. Anyone know?

SP-500 is said to be "Not A Fit" at the various auto parts outfits.

The search is a bit complicated

Try tascaparts.com for another number.
My '05 takes an SP-440 aka AGSF34PF but that might be immaterial.

Hello All,
I'm trying to make sure I put in the correct plugs for my 2003 4.0 Ranger. Within this picture, https://imgur.com/a/PRmhRXq you'll see the old plug on the left, A Bosch. On the right is what Autozone sold me a (Motorcraft SP440) I bought them before I started the job. As soon as I got my eyes on the old plugs I took the SP440's back because they looked to long and to my mind they would bang up the valves? What I have now and have not put in yet are Motorcraft SP500's that match the height perfectly. both the SP500's and the SP440's match the thread pitch. I'm bringing this to you all because in another corner of the internet ive got people saying the SP440's are actually the way to go

When I was changing my plugs, I looked on the rail behind the fan that has all the diagrams. It will say what plug was put in at the factory. Either get that plug or look it up it will show you the upgrades and comparable plugs.

Above it reads, "...I looked on the rail behind the fan that has all the diagrams. It will say what plug was put in at the factory."

Maybe back in '95. I just looked at my slam panel and the sticker reads, "Spark Plug Data see spec book".
NOTE: It doesn't even say, "owners manual"; which, in my case, only offers gap.
The brief table with a few maintenance part numbers has only a footnote advising you go to Ford or a qualified service tech.
Vagueness is built in from the beginning.
It's as if they wanted to create confusion.

Sorry for the delayed response. I rechecked. My sticker doesn't say what your sticker says.

There are 10 years between our Rangers. We've two different 4.0l engines.

If my originals differ greatly in reach (length) from the 440's I bought, I'll post about it.
