New exhaust. Suggestions?
I'm settled with the idea of replacing the exhaust on my 04 EDGE. I've been doing a lot of reading, and it really seems to me that true dual is the way to go for the deep, throaty sound that I want. But, I've also read a few accounts of people claiming that they get all the sound and power from the one in two out Y pipe from the cat back. Anyone have a definitive opinion?

While I'm thinking about it, I'd ideally like to get a small gain in MPG. I understand that there really aren't any worthwhile HP or torque gains by just replacing an exhaust. Just a nicer sound and a small mileage gain.
I'm not certain what would work best, in terms of cost-benefit. Anyone have a really smart set-up they want to brag about?

There are a few threads about exhausts with opinions and quality. Do a quick search and you can find them. Here is one.

I second the flowmaster 40, though mine is a single to dual outlet in the back. I would steer clear of "true" dual for one reason only...itll be gutless off the line. youll be loud as ***** but goin no where. I found my flowmaster at the junkyard and pulled it off and took it home for 30 bucks.

oem mufflers are chambered. Straight through muffler sounds like crap on anything except a v8. Also there's nothing wrong with true duals if the pipe is sized correctly. OP go for a 40 series flowmaster

I've run both true duals and the SI/DO. Granted the true duals was on the 3.0 but it sounded pretty good. The installer had no issue running the pipes. I was running 33x12.50's so speed was not a factor. Now on the 4.0 I have the SI/DO and out of the 3 Ranger's I've owned, this one sounds the best. I'm still running the factory cats so there's no raspiness in high RPM's. All muffler's were Flowmaster Delta 40's. I believe there may still be a sound clip on here somewhere.... I'll search through my old posts.

I just put a Flowmaster Super 44 SI/DO on my '03 from Magnum Exhaust on e-bay, like $244, I think. (Plus $60 to have shop weld tips and hangers)
Sounds great, love it. truck runs good. Video dosen't do it any justice...

How's the drone on the highway?? Do you remember the specs of the muffler (i.e. the in/out diameters?)
