upgrading air intake
so, i read 94dangerranger's thread and it reminded me that have been meaning to do this for some time. have some questions, as always! i would like to do this myself, but dont want it to have any negative effects on my engine. plus, i am all about saving a buck or two, so would like to do this relatively cheap. remember i am in louisiana where we have a good 6 months of blazin heat, unlike canada. what do you guys think about this intake?http://www.ifab.net/products/93intake/index.html. if i did get this one, i would like to get a guard of some type to shield it from the heat. does anybody know where you can get just a shield and not the whole kit? or am i just better off getting a drop in K&N filter?

They do clean better than the stock filter without causing any extra restriction. This is really important as you don't want gremlins in your engine. That's why I bought the drop in one for my truck. On the other hand, in my car I have the performance cone version of the K&N intake. This is because you can benefit from an engine that has been upgraded once you change the intake, and tune it.

The K&N filter was developed for offroad races like Baja, where the paper filters would plug up in no time. The K&N's wouldn't plug up, same amount of dust, guess where the dust was going........
K&N knows how much dirt their filters pass. If they didn't, they wouldn't come out with products like this
for use in "very dusty conditions":
http://www.knfilters.com/search/wrap.aspx
....and they wouldn't put statements like this in the warranty fine print:
"K&N will not be responsible for any other expenses incurred by the customer under the terms of this warranty, nor shall it be responsible for any damages either consequential, special, contingent, or otherwise; or expenses or injury arising directly or indirectly from the use of the K&N Air Filter.
