Symptom: Redlining in neutral/clutch pushed in. No idle.
Driving my truck tonight, push in the clutch, and the damn thing redlines and wont come back down. Shut the truck off on the side of the road and called the little cobra edge truck for the tow. YEP....lowered 4cyl ranger on cobra's towed my double lifted on 35's home tonight. Be proud grant.
There doesn't appear to be anything in the way of the throttle cable or around the Throttle Body.
Anybody got ideas??
I'm sooo sick of this damn engine. Timing rattle since 40k, the worst it's even been has been recently @ 108k. Down on power from being an alcoholic but replace beer and rum with dirt infested water. I'm not one to rant about my truck like some on this site are....but i'm just kinda frustrated. I really can't afford this right now. I think carma is ringing it's bell and it's bitin me in the ***. I've been ranting as of late about my 'feels like its got 250k engine, timing chain endless rattle, it's better to spend $700 on a junkyard low miler than it is to fix this POS engine that I beat the royal **** out of and it's had a few drinks'. /end rant.

true, i'll have my solus diagnostic computer tom i can look on it and see if it has anything about this issue your experiencing, i ask some of my buddys see if they might have any ideas, my thought process at the moment is telling me its a sensor...something like the tps, but i honestly havent sat down and actually looked at what all these sensors do. Havent had any real issues yet...

You attempt to unhook the battery, switch the lights on for a few seconds, plug the battery back in and try to start it up? Maybe the computer was getting a bad reading somewhere?
Ive had an issue on that with my old 8' ranger sitting out back.. but those are ancient, it was just a sticky throttle cable - which you checked and its for sure not that :-)

Hey remember, I have a spare TPS here somewhere.... If you need it.
It honestly sounds like the TPS is bad... my 2.5L did that Shane...
Does the SG say anything about any codes when it's doing that?
I was on that list of able towers... Had I not been at the store looking for a Blu Ray for the night, I woulda towed the locked up double lifted ranger :-) lol

TPS is the Throttle Positioning Sensor. My understanding of it is that it tell the computer the position of the throttle. I know on bikes at least, it is used also as a safety device. If the throttle is not depressed, but the throttle body is open, alot of times it will not allow the vehicle to run, throwing codes.
It would be simple just to unhook the TPS and test the resistance.

Found the problem.....
how long is the in-cab portion of the hood release cable supposed to be? The one in my brother's truck goes from the handle then promptly through the firewall. Mine...is about 50% LONGER and gets tangled up and binds right on the damn throttle pedal, causing it to press on the upper part of the pedal(above the pivot) and cause my little problem. All is well...just never noticed how long my damn cable is in the cab. Never had this happen in the 5 years I've owned the truck. Grab pics later. Ziptied the b!tch out of the way of the pedal.
