New Engine...Jasper? Where else?
I found out that I will need a new engine on my 4.0 L, V6, 4x4 Ford ranger. Damn. I have a mechanic who is going to replace it for me, locally. He recommended a Jasper motor. Can you guys give me RELIABLE websites that I can l look into for my engine? I want to find the best price around. Particularly, a remanufactured or brand new engine that fits my truck details..help please!!!! Thanks.

My experience & 02 FWIW...........steer clear of Jasper!
A Motorcraft Reman has 3 yr unlimited mileage warranty and are within the price of a Jasper or whoever is remaning them.

Do NOT go with a Jasper engine. I have friends and relatives both that worked there and the quality is shoddy as hell. Back in the '70s and early '80s when I was a mechanic, I put in a few of them. They sucked then just as bad. Motorcraft is the way to go... remanufactured by the company that designed and built them to start with.

$2900 will get u a motorcraft reman, just gotta look around.....I was just looking at Quirk Auto parts... they listed a motorcraft 4.0 reman engine for $2900... of course u could always source a salvage motor for around $1200 with low miles, if u don't wanna drop $3k on just the motor? Whatever u do though, please stay away from those big auto parts stores remans.....

What year is your truck?
4.0l OHV (1990-2000) long blocks run about $1,800
4.0l SOHC(2001 and up) long blocks run about $2,600
$3,500 reads like a bit much
I would also call local machine shops, they "remanufacturer" engines, so BETTER than new
They will disassemble current engine, look at the parts and tell you want needs to be replaced, then replace the stuff put it back together and you have "better than new" engine with LOCAL WARRANTY
You don't want "new" you had "new" it failed, so "new" doesn't mean "it works", new just means NEVER TESTED BEFORE, you can be the first, lol, which is OK most of the time, but not all the time
