Valve cover gaskets

Valve cover gaskets

anyone ever do vale cover gaskets? they need to be done on my moms 95 4.0L exploder, usually they are pretty easy but there seems to be a lot of stuff covering them that needs to be removed, any advice is appreciated

Just make sure the head and cover surface is clean & dry. Apply a **thin** coating of automotive and oil resistant grade silicon / sealer to the cork gasket. Then make sure you don't over tighten the bolts. Go back a week or two later and check there is no leaks and that the bolts are snug.

thanks, thats real helpful because i was wondering about whether the intake manifold had to come off or not, would like to do it myself but not sure if it's something i want to tackle out in the driveway

Just did mine, Had to take off the intake. and getting them off the motor will take some finesse. I would get the Fel-pro Permadry gaskets instead of the cork. And use permatex copper gasket sealer/maker.
