OHV to SOHC, again...

Alright now that I have found a ranger to my liking, It's time to get the sohc into use. I don't really plan on going into details but the sohc has 38k and the ohv has 108k. When I pull the ohv it will put up for sale. It runs great and brings back memories but once again hands down for the sohc being better imo. Pics so far..

The sohc in the donor truck..

The donor truck..Pretty isn't it lol..

New ranger..

ohv which is in remarkable shape I might add, it's a shame to get rid of but I have to use for it.

Oh and one more thing what is exactly involved in the timing chain fix. When I have the sohc out I am considering doing this to the motor since the fix ford issued was between 03-04. It is an 03 motor but I don't exactly remember when the fix was issued between those times.

Alright I have done more work to the truck and have the engine out. Long enough as its taking me. I haven't really had the time yet but now I do. So here are all the pictures that you guys love. The pressure plate and flywheel look kinda burned so I'm thinkn of replacing or having them resurfaced, although when I drove it last in my old ranger it didn't seem to slip or give me any problems. So I may not. Tell me what you guys think. I'm resealing the entire engine. Valve covers, rear & front main seals, oil pan, etc. Also have put the headers on that I have so longly waited for. Put fresh mud tires on it. So here we are so far with progress.

Just do the flywheel and get a new clutch while its out. If you dont it will probably start acting up down the road and its a lot easier to do it now

Yeah that's what I figured, but I always like to have a second opinion even if I know the answer anyway lol.

Well I was doing an oil pan gasket and noticed this...

It had only been in my black ranger for 38,XXX. So it must be a slow inside engine coolant leak. It was running perfectly before everything happened to the black truck, so I'm pretty sure the engine is in good shape. Head gasket maybe??

*Edit*

It seems this problem might be more common then I originally thought.

How long did it sit in the other truck? Could water have gotten in it somehow?

It sat for a good 2 years or so, didn't think I was going back to a ranger but that's not how things worked out. It was only a tiny bit of coolant in the bottom so I'm pretty sure it wasn't sucking it up, but I'm going to nip this problem in the bud before it gets worse. After all the money I'm dumping into this project, there is no way I'm letting this get worse.

Alrighty I'm finished. I have also installed the expo leafs and bronco II sway bar and got new rancho shocks. Everything is setup the way it use to be. Everything is working fine. Although I did have to tap on the thermostat housing a couple times to get it open lol. Guess it was stuck from sitting for so long. It's throwing a check engine code and the oil pressure gauge isn't coming up. The code is a p0443 code which is the purge solenoid, I have it just hooked up to the intake, which I suppose isn't right. I've looked at the diagram and it goes to a thermistor then to the throttle body for the regular 98 ohv. Obviously it's going to be a little different. I don't really know off hand if I did it right or not, or do I have to setup the old system again??? Also there is definitely oil pressure. the gauge when keyed on comes off of the needle it rests on but doesn't come up. I'm thinkin it's the sender. I will post pictures of my ranger when it's all detailed and looking fresh.

*Bump* anyone at all, this evap thing is getting annoying. I replaced the old one but to no avail. I simply have the purge solenoid hooked up to the intake, is this correct at all??? I can hear it on all the time, when I unplug it. It closes and you can no longer hear vacuum to it.
