How would you guys wire this diagram?

for a 99 Ranger with o wiring harness? I had theBlack Wire from the Stereo Wiring Harness going to the black and geren wire from the truck, with the yellow and red wires from the stereo both going to the blak/yellow wire in the truck. Seemed to be working (not great) but when I disconnected everything to secure it better, it stopped working. Your thoughts?

Based on that diagram, I would do this:

Radio --> Ford harness

Yellow --> light green / purple
Red --> yellow / black
Black --> black / light green
Orange --> light blue / red

Also, check fuses 20 and 29 in the dash fuse panel to make sure they are not blown.

There is no black and light green, just 2 black and dark green, and when I use either of them, the head unit gets very hot. It turns on, but gets hot and I can detect an electric smell, and there is no sound from the speakers, and the touch screen is 'sluggish',

Reread my post. Black w/light green stripe is in the OE Ranger harness. You mentioned it ^^^^ yourself in your first post.

As the diagram shows, the radio's black (B-) ultimately goes to battery negative and some might run a dedicated wire all the way to the battery post. Unless there is some interference problem, I would just connect that wire to the Ranger's original black/light green ground wire at the OE radio connector.

The diagram appears to be saying that the radio's green wire is for steering wheel controls. If so, then it shouldn't be connected to anything in a Ranger application.
