heating problems

I have a 2009 Ford Ranger with a 4-cylinder 2.3 that I purchased new in 2009. It is a base model with no AC. The truck was not driven for a year and when I began to drive it there was no heat. I poked around a little not really doing or fixing anything. The heat then came on now all I get is hot air. I thought someone might be familiar with this problem and steer me in the right direction. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Earl

Couple of things.

Open the hood and find the heater hoses at the firewall, follow them towards the front and find the Heater control valve, this allows hot coolant to circulate thru the heater core inside the cab.
See if you can manually move the valve, it should be vacuum operated so you can move it.
Then start engine and see if it moves when you select COLD and then HOT, if it doesn't move then vacuum system could have a problem or valve is the problem.
Put a hose on the valve and suck on it, i.e. apply a vacuum to see if it moves and then moves back when you release vacuum.

More common issue but a pain to repair is the Blend Door actuator
Google: Ranger blend door actuator repair

Should apply to 2009 but not sure
