Could this be an opportunity to upgrade?

Could this be an opportunity to upgrade?
So my rear diff slips a little on takeoff and when I changed fluid there was a little metal and pins were not tight. At this point I could have a local place do the rebuild for about $800. I currently have an 8.8 (R7) axle code...4.0 auto trans 4x4 (2002 XLT). Some have suggested getting another rear end at J-yard...but what if I get another one that has same issue.
Since Ford will not pay for it (some of the 2002 were recalled for this just this issue but not mine).
In 2010 rangers went to disc brakes. We know the drum brakes suck (in my opinion).
Will a 2010 rearend bolt directly in an 2002 without a bunch of fab work??
Just thinking that would be a great way to fix rear diff issue and upgrade brakes same time.

2010+ axles are SUPER SUPER expensive and very complicated....it's not worth the hassle of going in blindly. Plus VERY hard to locate considering the low numbers sold. Go the tried and true proven route of converting to Mustang disc brakes on a 8.8 28 spline.
That price seems a little steep for a simple axle rebuild....it's only about $150 in parts assuming you don't need a r&p. Has anyone actually looked at it to determine what's happening? Driveshaft slip sticking is common and a bad pinion bearing isn't rare but isn't common either. How many miles?
Ford only recalled the 2002 Fx4 Off Road axle if equipped with manual transmission. It was a design flaw with Torsen's differential. Only manuals because of the increased shock load, though several autos of the same model year and trim level experienced the same failure.

Truck only has 79k miles. Pulled cover and there was few tiny metal shavings. Pins had a little play in them. Shop was able to reproduce the lag on lift. I am going to take it to another shop and get second opinion. They specialize in this type work. The $800 quote was if they had to do the r&p rebuild. Heck maybe I will get lucky and it will be less expensive. haa
