1356 manual on an a4ld
I read on a couple forums that the 1354 and 1356 share the same 6 bolt pattern and 31 spline input, but those threads came to an ubrubt stop with no actual answers. Anyone able to confirm this? A 1354 manual t case is very, very rare to find here, but I have a few manual shift 1356's. If possible this might be my solution to the transfer case issue in my 92 explorer. Making some sort of linkage for the shifter wouldn't be an issue for me, I'm sure some flat plate with a hole drilled in it mounted to the cab would be enough.

The BW1350 and 1354 are the same.
The BW1356 was used on full size trucks which never used the A4LD trans, I believe it is a larger transfer case and would guess that no it wouldn't bolt to A4LD but there may be a tail shaft housing adapter, and you would need to change drive shafts as they would most likely be wrong length.
This is an opinion not facts as I have never tried this swap.
If you are mechanically inclined then look at the Shiftster: Easily Convert Your Electric BorgWarner Transfer Case to Manual Operation! | The Shiftster
They have done most of the hard work.
If you were to mount the shiftster inside the cab and then made a cable and sheath that could twist the transfer case shifter...............
Most that use the Shiftster just use manual hubs and then put the transfer case in 4high during winter months, then lock the hubs when 4WD is needed
