Hi everyone. I have a 2004 ford ranger FX4 Level II 4x4, V6 4.0L, Automatic with 42K and I have a question concerning the transmission. The problem is when I am at a complete stop and tap on the gas to go again there is a slight hesitation / jerk that you can feel through the pedal. Other than that it accelerates and shifts fine, in fact this is one of the smoothest shifting automatics that I have ever owned. This occurs only when at a dead stop in drive and you can barely feel it in reverse. Just wondering if anyone has an idea as to what it might be. Thanks for your help. Jeff

 

its in the driveshaft, I just had mine greased.

 

Just double checking but did you take it in to the dealer for that recall about the transfluid?

If so then I would say 05DSG is right on the money, you can have it greased but it will come back. Its the slip-yoke bump that you feel, ALOT of rangers have this issue. One way most have fixed it was to buy a set of James Duff Traction bars for under 100 bucks.

 

No, I didn’t even know about the recall. I took it to a local mechanic last week and he said it was something that was internal, that the hesitation with the bump meant that something was slipping, but all he did was drive it around the parking lot. So you don’t think it is anything with the transmission bands or gears or anything internal like that, i did check the driveshaft when i was under the truck and it seemed tight.
I figured it might be a problem with a lot of the rangers I also have a 02 4x2 3.0L that does the same thing just not as noticeable.
Do I need to look more into this recall or should I just have the driveshaft greased and see if that works? Thanks

 

scratch the recall I put the VIN # into fords recall site and it said that there are no reacalls for my truck

Maybe i should have read a little bit where it said that it only tracks SAFETY and EMISSIONS recalls on the ford.com site. I'll just take it to the dealer
