2008 clutch

was launching my boat on a real steep boat ramp at a low lake level this weekend, when i was pulling out the truck and trailer the truck bogged down real bad and wouldnt budge with the truck floored in 1st and the clutch out, it just wouldnt move, it was a real steep boat ramp but when i finally pulled out in 4x4low there was a bad clutch smell that didnt seem good, now the clutch feels shorter and softer, still runs and shifts fine but definately not the snappy responsive self it used to be, wonder if anybody has any ideas on what it could be and how much its going to cost me, i'm definately not a mechanic

clutch job from a shop can get very pricey. i was quoted nearly $1800 by a ford dealer, clutch was $495, flywheel if needed would be almost $600! plus 8-10 hours labour. i looked up the labour times and it is listed as 7.8hours in a 4x4. i did my clutch in my garage in under 6, but i am a mechanic. it is easy to do if you take your time. plan out a weekend and get it done. i replaced clutch and slave cylinder with parts from rockauto.com for a little over $500.

prices are in canadian dollars and include shipping and other fees.

well go figure, i had to pull a buddy out of ditch today. he had a van with trailer and was trying to get turned around and got stuck so i pop'd to 4x4low and eased him out. well, i tried. soon as i got some good load onto the truck, clutch all the way out.. it seemed to just slip. it did pull it out, but smoked bad. was just now looking into a couple kits to replace mine as well. what's up with these self adjusting? is it "normal"? should i be worried about it alot? it still drove fine on way home and all.
