running 33's with 3.73 gears

i finally got my tires and am running it with the 3.73 gears and i gotta say it runs absolutely FINE.... seriously not much different than it did stock.... i see absolutely no need to spend $500+ to regear

Theres no way you didn't notice any change with 3.73s, I noticed a change going from 29s to 32s and I have 4.10s. I'm sure its doable but its not the same as stock.

I went from 27's to 31's and it is noticable with 3.73. Of course though I am running 4 banger power. I was on the interstate Sunday and I had to run it in 4th the whole way cruising at 65 because the wind was so bad. I couldn't run it in 5th.

Well I would call bull**** on this because I went from 28's to 33's with 3.73 gears and my truck was even more of a turd then it already was. So maybe you just don't want to notice a difference. Try to go up a hill that you would normally do in third gear and try that in third again. I bet you won't make it. And start at the same speed you normally would.

i have a 2002 3.0 extended cab ranger edge 2wd auto.....seriously guys when accelerateing rarely do i go above about 2800 rpms (mind you i dont know what normal rpms would be), but just saying that the conditions with the 3.73's are not worthy of dropping easily 500 dollars to regear

Oh I agree, you can get a 8.8 out of a JY for under 200 with 4.10s

I'll completely disagree. I went to 33's with my stock 3.73's, with the 4.0 and auto tranny. I didn't notice the big difference until I went back to stock. Then I realized just how much the big tires dogged the truck. Take offs from stoplights are easier on the engine/tranny, accelerating on the highway doesn't take forever to drop gears anymore, and the gas mileage was the BIG difference. I averaged ~14mpg with the 3.73's and 33's. Back to stock I've been getting ~20mpg. The problem was I had to have a heavier foot with the big tires to get moving "like stock", using more gas. I wasted more than the $500 in poor gas mileage than it would cost to get regeared during the year I had the lift and tires.

theres nothing to call b.s. on...in my opinion its not worth changing gears...the power loss is not sufficient enough to **** away a chunk of money

My 3.0 had no problems with 33's and 3.73's. Not too mention I was still getting 22 and 23mpgs in the city.
