I’m fairly new to working on motors and swaps but I currently have an 83 ranger 2.3 connected to a 4speed 4x4 trans and I was just wondering what all I would have to do to put either a 289 or 302 in or what I could swap to and keep my current trans anything helps.

Current 4cyl transmission and transfer case can not handle V8 torque/power

Best bet will be to get a 289/302 V8 with its trans and transfer case from a full size 4x4, i.e. F-150 or Bronco

You have a Toyo Kogyo 4-speed transmission
Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd.,1927, they started making 3-wheeled vehicles using the Mazda name as early as 1936, then exporting 4-wheel vehicles using Mazda name in the 1960's, and officially changed the company's name to Mazda in 1984
