Contemplating install ing a lockrite in my 2.3 for some better luck in the snow this year. Can some ppl comment on the behaviour of the truck w/lockrite and manual transmission in normal everyday driving situations.

 

all I have is the stock ls on my truck and it has treated me fine but my truck is a auto. But my frined stangdroptop351 has limited slip front and rear and he said that he has to watch in the winter. He said that If hes not careful, his truck will just spin right around because of the traction. In addition, he has a manual.

 

In the snow a manual trans has the advantage because you can rock yourself out from being stuck but I'm not so sure about a locker vs l/s.

 

This is not necessarily a snow related question, but I have read in few random threads here that a lockrite in a manual tranny can make it a little squirely at the best of times.

 

It's a locker. Just learn how to drive with one in and you won't have to worry about how it drives in the snow and everyday driving. It's not much different than driving one without a locker. Just takes getting used to.

PFFT! You wanna talk erratic, try front wheel drive only with a lockrite!

The nice thing about the lockrite is if you don't like it, take it out and put the stock pieces back in until you find something else.

With the lockrite and a stick, you will learn to drive smoothly, and be very deliberate with gas pedal. Coast around corners/depress the clutch. You'll be fine.

 

Having driven extensively in snow with a L/S for a number of years , starting from a full stop and cornering are the trickiest . Losing traction from a standstill the rear of the truck will tend to slip toward one side or the other , even on mostly level ground .
When cornering , if the front tires lose any traction , the truck will tend to "plow" , or go in a straight line the way the vehicle is pointing regardless of the direction the front tires are aimed.

 

Good point on the easy removal. I have driven many vehicles with a detroit style locker, but heard the lockrite unloads a little more harshly. Mostly choosing the lockrite because of price point....its only a 2.3L.
