Here's what you need:
Yes...you can somehow make the honeycomb fit into the stock XL/ XLT 2wd shell.....but i'd suggest just getting a 4x4 XLT/EDGE grille assembly(both the honeycomb and the "shell". It's a direct swap...with NO problems.
This is a good, reputable place to get parts....i love LMC truck. I've probably bought over $3000 of parts for my chevy from them.

The pic shows the differences between the two style grilles.....Your current grille, is referred to as a "closed" grille because the top is closed. And the 4x4 XLT/EDGE grilles are referred to as "open" because the top is open. I believe that the XL/2wd XLT grilles are the same width and same bevels as the honeycomb....but not exactly sure.

Damn... that seems spendy! $45 bucks for the Ford Emblem?
Anyway, I think Fx4 pretty much said what needed to be said. You can make it work, but might be easier to try and find an opentop grill instead. I think I got mine for like $40 bucks from a local place called CertiFit. Doesn't look like they have a location around you though.

thanks for the info guys, that was super helpful.
I found a local guy who has a complete new mesh grille, and a grille with the shell and new emblem for $25, and $50 respectively, waiting to hear back.
Sounds to me like I should just get the complete one for an easy swap, not to mention I'd pay almost that much for the emblem itself
its Sonic blue tho, so I'd have to drop it off around the corner body shop to get it shot black.
again, forum members here make my life easier:D
