Herculiner

Heres the thread from when I did mine. If you scroll down a ways I answer the questions.

First off, buy a wire wheel for a drill, It will be the best $5 you've spent in a long time. Wear 2 layers of rubber gloves for everything, both the prep and the hurculining. That paint dust is really ichy on the skin. Also if you get hurculiner on your skin it will be there for atleast a week.
Apply your tape after the acetone and get it stuck on really good. I did the acetone after and it melted the tape and so the hurculiner got through.
TAKE YOUR BED BOLTS OUT. Goto auto zone and get a T-55 and a T-45 bit and take out the bed bolt and remove the tailgate. Do it right, because if you ever need to take the bed off, its gonna be a b!tch to cut the liner off of those bolts.
Unlike rhino lining and Line-X, if you get a cut in the liner you can simply scuff it up and put some more on top of it. Its very easy to repair. I had to do some touch ups and it stuck to its self pretty well.
There's probably more but its late and im tired if you have anymore questions feel free to ask me.

I used a gallon and a half on my truck bed. I have been pleased with the stuff, it chips if you hit it real hard with a sharp edge, everything else has held on really well and worked great. Alot cheaper than the professional stuff, just know what ur getting.
BTW I used the duplicolor bedliner not the herculiner. Same stuff, just cheaper.

Isn't waterproof? Part of the point of using it is to seal the bed against water penetrating to the metal.

Its definatly worth it. I give it 2 thumbs up.

I too am looking at doing Herculiner.
And instead of a new thread, i'll continue here.
I've been reading about it fading over the years in sunlight, but i came across this product.
Looks like they make a UV protectant. Any one tried this stuff to know if it works?

Not really the tailgate took me a while because of the bends in the metal. Just make sure you use the acetone BEFORE you tape. If you put acetone on the tape it will melt the tape and the hurculier will get through. I have some ugly spots because of it.

Just ordered 2 gallons of herculiner today.
Since i was reading 1 gal seemed a little thin on there. So i figured i'd throw 1 1/2 or so on the bed to thicken it out, then my father wants to use the rest on his work van bumper.
Did anyone prime the bed first to make sure no rust will set, or is it unnecessary?

You could primmer the bed but I don't think the herculiner will adhere to the metal to well. When I herculined my car trunk area I stripped the paint with a heavy duty stripper like acetone. Then did 3-4 coats of liner in it. You should put UV coat on it so it won't fade as much, or quicker. I was lazy and just took my Ranger to a Line-X shop and had them do it. They also added Ultra-X the UV kevlar based coat. It looks good but $730 is what it cost me. Herculiner worked well on keeping my trunk in my old car safe from rust and major water damage because it leaked a little bit during the rainy season. Thought I just share you my experience with it.

I am getting Perma-Tech for my new Ranger. Comes in color( color is though out the material), UV protectant through out the material, less expensive than LineX which if you want color is a paint coat and needs renewal of the UV protectant coat each year. In color for my Ranger is $490 with a life time guarantee.
Had it in my Dodge Dakota and it held up well.
