how much would a powar sunroof cost???

 

800 to 1200 bucks. That is what I have been quoted when I got my 04 Ranger. I am actually thinking of adding one to my Roadmaster, but Not until I have my new LT1 Dropped in!

yeah a shop down the road from me quoted me in the mid 800's for a Webasto powered sun roof... i've heard good things about Webasto, so i figured that would be the one i'd want if i ever got one.

There are two trucks that recently rolled, hpyford and another member(mazda b). I'd advise you to check out the aftermath photos before you get all excited about installing a sunroof.

If you do, I'd strongly suggest ading re-inforcement to you cad roof!!

 

how about a ragtop sunroof? They're prolly cheaper, and if you're not planning on offroading or racing, you shouldn't have to add any reinforcement (for all us drop crazy minitruckers). i was thinkin about doin this.

 

I would never 100% never recommed installing a sunroof/moonroof in a ranger ever the main support for the top of the cab runs threw the center from front to back. it has to be completely taken out to install it. totally distroying the integrety of the roof. ford vehicals like the F-150 or explorers that come stock with them have tons of re-enforcments in the roof to compinsate for it...the ranger doesnt


you will not like a daily driver with a rag top ever. my budy had on installed on his baged 01 ranger and it always leaks in hard rain storms. had to install one of those wind visors in the front to keep it some what sealed in the rain while driving. granted it is a garaged show truck not his daily he try's to never drive it in the rain. personally i think there ****ty having first hand experance with them...

i was thinking about this for my truck, it 'appears' that the sun roof could actually fit behind the seats, seems to me all the structual support is over the seats.

 

IIRC, the main support runs in the middle of the cab roof.

 

SEEMS and IS are two different things. I just explained the god honist truth and people still dont listen WTF ever screw it all...

Not cranky, just not promoting the installation of any type of sunroof. I'd hate to see someone install one then roll their truck and be like "WTF, Why'd my roof completely cave in and crush my skull??"

Why not two small moonroofs, between the main support brace? Even two small windows up there would be cool I think.

 

ok, i know this is an old forum, but heres an idea. If you have or can get an explorer or mountanier where the sunroof is still in working order and in tacked, cut the roof off of that and then, this might be scary, but then cut the roof off of your ranger, and weld the exploror/mountanier roof on, rewire everything, grind/sand down the welds, repaint it and it would work with no leaks. As long as you take your time and weld everything else back in and make sure the support beams are all in welded and strucurally sound, the problem with the roof caving in isnt that big of an issue anymore. Its easyer said then done, but i think it could work. Would try it on mine if i had the time, money, and an explorer/mountanier with a sunroof sittin around. but i dont.

because any lateral support bars would need to connect with the vertical supports perfectly. and if you havent noticed a explorer roof is much bigger then a ranger roof. It not just the support around the sunroof you need, its the support across the whole thing.

I just dont think it would happen. I have walked through a couple junk yards and seen plenty of rolled over rangers. They hold up very well. I wouldnt want to do anything to jeopardized that safety.
