How do I find out the angle I need to bind the skid so it will mount to my SL crossmember? We have a break machine up at work to bind the skid but I need to find out how many degrees to bind it....what is the best way to find out?

Heres a few pics of the skid so far....I cut it with a cut-off wheel and mess up once....nothing I cant fix though

For me i did trial and error. just don't over did and you'll be fine. Search the key words "skip plate" no that's not a misspelling. I think Gumby had some degree measurements. 20* i think.

 

Bump....I know someone knows the best way to bend 1/8in aluminum.

i thought your work had a brake press? otherwise bend it with a set of vice grips and a vice. its aluminum, should bend easy

 

do most ppl make them out of aluminum? seems a little weak don't you think?

The brake press we had would not bend it so I had to put it in a vise and heat it up with the torch to bend it.

My plan is to blot a piece of 1in flat bar to the top of the skid and fab some brackets to bolt to my old tow hooks mounts. I am bolting steel cause I cant weld aluminum. The bottom will bolt directly to the SL crossmember.

 

looking good, now when you get it all done, you can go hit something and see if it works haha

 

Mine is mostly for looks. If and when I ever get to go offroading again I doubt Ill run into anything that skids are required. I like aluminum cause you dont have to paint it or worry about it rusting.

 

Mock it up in lighter gauge sheet and measure the angles. You could even do it with cardboard and an angle finder.
