Front bumper/cross member question

So, Im awake and dont plan on sleeping until some day in the future.....

And....This questions is to anybody with custom front bumpers, or knowledge of the front cross member thing.

When you built your bumper, did you remove the front cross member? OR did you work around it?

I dont know, but I dont think it would be wise to remove it and make something custom to fit in between there....BUT...it seems that if I were to buy d-ring mounts from Ballistic Fab or something, then the CM might get in the way.

What do you guys think?

I used the original mounting holes, it works and is pretty strong. Im gonna alter the mounts once I get a winch though

If its strong enough to hold the regular bumper, it should be able to hold up your custom one.
The CM is actually a pretty good mounting point, its just as good as the frame, but not as strong.

I cut it out and replaced it with a piece of 4x4 angle.

Have you used it as a mounting point for anything?

Do you have any pics?

So how sturdy is it? Did you weld it up there?

I have some 2x2 square tubing that is 1/4" thick (beefy stuff) That I could put between there.

You think that would be a good idea? I also have some of this crazy big thick angle laying around.

I cut mine out and welded a hitch to the frame then welded a winch plate on top of that.
Here is my build.

1/4" 2"x2" square tubing would work great.

The angle is welded to the frame and the bumper is bolted to it. It's good and strong. I've winched plenty of stuff, trucks and trees, without a problem.

I think that 2x2 tubing would work fine depending on what you're planning to do.
