ecoboost swap?

Is it possible? Well, anything is possible, but is it worth it? Could you pull the engine out of a taurus with ecoboost and throw it in a ranger? Could you just take the turbos and put them on a 4.0? Anyone seen this done yet? Post pics, links, anything...It sounds like a good idea imo.

If this has already been discussed, sorry.

I would say No it hasn't been done yet, since the motor is so new, I can't see it beeing the cheapest or easiest way to get that kind of power.

As far as using the turbos on a 4.0, I have limited Turbo knowledge, from my Turbo Buick and my friends on the Impala site with twin turbo setups, but from them, you'd probably be better off building your own setup, then trying to adapt a Taurus setup. It would proabably be a better performer too, cause ford has to find a happy medium between power, fuel economy, and drivability. You have the power in your own setup to tweak it to your needs.

The engine management that comes with the ranger does not have the capability to control the ecoboost. There is an extra timing map for fuel injection that is present with direct injection that we don't need on our trucks stock. The biggest challenge is however the fact that the ecoboost is a transverse setup and the ranger has a longitudinal. Besides, the stock honeywell turbo's that come on the ecoboost are really cheap turbos that lose efficiency over 110,000 rpm. - I agree with the post above mine even with extensive turbo knowledge.

Downsides about the Ecoboost V6 include:

1: Difficult to upgrade turbo's, transfer case sits nearly an inch from rear compressor inlet.
2: Nearly useless FMIC, only about 1" thick.
3: Poor knock control
4: Fuel system isn't easy to control or upgrade.

i would say go with a 3.0L duratec. out of the Lincoln ls. swap everything over ecu and yadda yadda yadda. that what i plan on doing once my vulcan self destructs from superchargeing + nitrous injecting.Only thing it the way is the a/c condenser i beleive? the 3.0L duratec as well as the 2.5,3.5,3.7 are 25" from the end of bank 1 to bank 2. the left bank as your looking at it in the engine bay will hit the ac condenser. so im thinking of a way to solve this problem without loosing a/c. i used to say wait for the 3.5L but the 3.0L has a decent aftermarket and will be easier to install and so on.

Are you referring to the 3.5 in the larger fords today? Do you understand that this is a transverse engine?

yeah the ecoboost engine really wouldnt be worth putting in your ranger in my opinion, the way ford has done the wiring on that car your gonna havee a hell of a time getting it to work on your ranger. i would just go with a 3.0 period theres a bigger market for it that that ecoboost 3.5L

Or you could build a sick boosted dohc 2.3 considering that engine already comes in the truck.
