No, I had a Ford tech do it and he ended up breaking the other 4 he tried to get out.
I'm convinced you have to get them out when its hot and as fast as you can. I let the engine cool down to much and thats when they started breaking. I couldnt get my impact to the one on the back and removing it by hand wasnt quick enough to prevent it from breaking. He soaked them for a while like the TSB said and still broke everyone that he tried to remove.
I probably could have finished it by myself but by that time I was tired of messing with it.

Looks like fun. I just got to helicoil my brothers f-250 5.4. I was driving, just got out so he could ram rod it into his snowfilled yard to unload materials, I told him he could drive so I don't break anything, sure enough, his first throttle application resulted in -1 spark plug from his head. Classic 5.4.

Ford recommends that these engines sit until they are dead cold then remove the plugs. You are supposed to back them out about 1/8th turn, then soak with very thin penetrating oil(about 1/4" deep) for about 15 minutes each then start backing them out (turning back & forth) until they are out. I've done several of these & have still broken them off, but the odds are better if you do it Ford's way. I purchased a tool for removal at napa for about $125.00. The first time that I used it paid for the tool.(2 broken) It is a simple tool to use & only took about 15 minutes to remove them both. (Napa spark plug removal tool for 4.6 & 5.4 3 valve engines).

The removal tool only cost me 50 bucks, 125 is crazy. You can get it on amazon for 60 new.
