mounting up the cb/ham radio

mounting up the cb/ham radio
well it was time for a cb in the truc, and mount my ham radio in there too. i built a steel plate out of 1/8" steel. for 2 reasons i used 1/8" steel. one i had it so freebie. and two i could remount my factory aux in jack for the radio.
used the factory plastic piece and used it for a template. trimmed it all out with my 4 1/2" grinder with a cut off wheel. as for the small bend i needed, i could of cut the part off and re welded it. but i chose to score a line in the steel and clamp it in the vice and bent it over a few deg*. drilled 3 holes and was able to use factory screws and mounting points.
held the cb and backet up to it in the truck and tack welded it on and then finished welded it to my plate. then cut out a mounting tab for my ham radio control head to be stuck to. welded it on also. took and drilled 4 holes and hogged out the extra steel with a die grinder. was able to make the stock aux input jack fit into the plate.
so all i have left to do is drill a large hole for coax and power cables to pass through into the dash and put a gromet in the hole. and a coat of paint. fixin to paint it glss black to match the other black parts in the cab.
lol ok nuff rambeling heres some pics. BTW all i have is crappy cell phone pics.
removed the trans console, theres the seat belt restraint module under it. (klein Tools FTMFW!!)
plate screwed to the dash, and cb mounted on.
all finished welded
mounted up on the dash.
and heres the ham radio control head held up next to the cb.
and on a side project happening the same time. built a battery tray to mount on the side of my 30yr old miller AEAD-200LE engine welder.

well up date.
finished running my power cable for the ham radio and cb radio. had to re run the control wire for the ham radio because it got caught in the E brake pedal and cut. i dident find this out till after i powered the radio up and fryed it. (damn) 280 dollar radio.
screwed my mounting plate to the dash and poked the new control wire and power cord for the cb through. pluged in the aux jack for the radio. then i went and started checking out how i was mounting the ham radio body to the truck. figgured it out and put some paint on the new bracket. now i wait for the paint to dry.
all i have left to do i swap in my spare Icom ic-208h radio and sticky tape the control head to my mount and bolt the body of the radio down.
as for the cb all i need is the coax and mount i ordered from walcott cb. and it all should be done.
ok now to the pics.
heres the mount all finished painted in gloss black. and you can see i was able to re install the stock radio aux in jack to it also.
heres the lip mount by comet for the ham radio dual band antenna. the coax snakes down in the jump door and passes through the small rubber hose thingy for the spaeaker wires and down into the cab ending up under the drivers seat.
crappy pic but heres the mount and antenna with the jump door closed.
heres the mount for the ham radio. i used a peice of flat steel i had in my scrap pile and went between the two seat bolts and tek screwed the stock radio mount to it. it also got a coat of gloss black paint. sits low enough to keep out of the way of the slider yet high enough to have good air flow. the radio has a small fan on it stock.
all the pics for now. more to come.

i think comet makes a mount like that with the 3/8-24 thread of cb antennas.
far as ham goes im just a technician license. there is 3 levels tech, general, and extra. far as radios i have a small home setup and ofcourse u seen my mobile set up.

so yea finished my install tonight. mounted up the bracket to the bed, made my last coax hookups, and tuned the antenna.
running a wilson 2' white fiberglass whip with a spring. was able to get it tuned down to a 1.3.1 swr ratio. seems to work ok was lissing to the druggies on ch.12 here after midnight they get on and blab away.
